CHALLENGE!
Put on a gymnastics display for another class!
We are very excited about this challenge, especially since some of the girls in the class go to a gymnastics club and can share lots of their skills with us!
The first thing we did was to watch a short film to show us what gymnastics is all about. (Please note… we will not be attempting most of what is in the film!)
We thought we could put some balances into our display, so today we worked with a partner to make these imaginative pieces of work!

Just like the professionals! What do you think?

Today, some of the children who go to gymnastics club showed us how to make a bridge! We are going to use this move in our display.
In the video, we saw some of the gymnasts making rolls and summersaults. We decided that some of these moves might be a little dangerous for us to try, so Lesley showed us a “pencil roll” that the children in motor group do. We all had a go!
Fantastic

More fun in gym today! Molly and Oakleigh showed the rest of the class the safe way to make a forward roll today. We got lots of soft mats out and had great fun learning how to roll in two different ways – a forward roll and a pencil roll.
We copied the gymnasts in the video, and stretched tall to show that we were about to start a movement, then again at the end to show we were finished.
We also danced like real gymnasts using colourful ribbons. We will definitely use all our new skills in our display!

At last…time for us to perform our Gymnastics Display! We have been very excited all day and were SO pleased to see so many grown-ups coming to school to watch.
The children performed brilliantly and I felt very, very proud of them all. Well done everyone!
( I am still trying to figure out how to put the video onto the website…watch this space!)

What fantastic gymnasts you all are. It looks like you had lots of fun and are very good at balancing!
Wow! Isn’t it just amazing what the human body can do! Rorie is very good at handstands and balancing, you should get him to show you sometime! Well done P1, great balancing skills.**
P1 is a brilliant class. Gymnastics there looks very fun

I like the film of the Russian Gymnasts and I showed my family! I told Mummy that we were not going to do anything too dangerous! Mummy was glad! Jemma
What a fantastic bunch of gymnasts you all are! And what a wonderful video Mr. Jamieson has found to inspire you. Primary 2P at Sanderson’s Wynd are learning some gymnastics skills in PE this term as well. We’ll have a look at your blog tomorrow before we go to gym!
Sorry, that was meant to read Mrs. Jamieson!
Good luck with your gymnastics display P1 – it looks like you are all doing very well already! Isla & I had a good time watching the brilliant video and talking about what the gymnasts are doing – it looks like they have practised for a loooong time.
We have been enjoying watching the gymnastics video on line, Louisa has been trying out some of the basic movements at home.
Just a little note to say that all your photos of gymnastics loo amazing! Molly and Shirley Mack would love to come along to see your display. We are really looking forward to it. Well done P1 x
I can’t wait to come and see your gymnastics display. It looks as though it is going to be very professional!
