Garden Glut Coffe Morning

Please join us for our Garden Glut Coffee Morning on Friday 14th October from 10:00 to 11:30. The children in our school “Charities Group” have decided to try and raise money to help starving and diseased people in Africa.

The children would like to ask for donations in return for teas, coffees and home baking. They are also hoping to sell any garden produce, so if you have any spare fruits, vegetables, jams or chutneys they would be very grateful if you could send them into school nearer the time to sell. They would also like some home baking to go with the teas and coffees.

If you are ina any way able to help, the Charities Group would be very grateful! Please pop in to see us on the 14th if you can!

“Roald Dahlicious Dress-Up Day!”

We had great fun today, dressing up as our favourite Roald Dahl character or in yellow (Roald Dahl’s favourite colour.) We joined everyone else in the assembly hall to hear from Sarah, who works for the Roald Dahl’s Charity.

She told us how all the money we gathered would be spent. It will help seriously ill children in Britain. Did you know there are Roald Dahl nurses in hospitals all around the country?

The children from the “Charities Group” organised a fashion show and chose 2 children from each class as winners.

Can you guess the characters?

Next we had a visit from Lennox the Library Lion who came to say well done for reading so many Roald Dahl stories. He came into our classroom at Golden Time.

Primary 2 Spelling

Since we have been making calendars, the children in Primary 2 have been learning how to spell the days of the week. Some of the words are quite tricky to spell. We made detailed word diagrams to help us, then had fun using extra furry pipecleaners to make the letter shapes for each word.

All words start with a capital letter and we have learned how to join our writing to spell the "day" part of the word.

Pirate Games!

The children in Primary 3/4 have been learning about the seaside for their topic. They made board games about boats and pirates for us, and this afternoon, they came to show us how to play them!

We had to listen carefully to find out how to play the game.

We had to roll the dice then move the counters along the board.

Some of the games were very creative!

We had a lovely time together

Calendar

Primary 2 have been learning about time. As well as telling the time on analogue and digital clocks, they have been learning about days of the week and the months of the year. They have decided to make a calendar for the class too!

We are looking for special dates or celebrations to put on our calendar. Please help your child find out the date and month of their birthday and write it on a little bit of paper. The Primary 2′s will make sure it’s included on the calendar.

In Whole Class Reading today, we had a look at the RSPB Youth website to try and find some answers! Please make sure you have a look in the big green jotters the children took home today to find out more! (I apologise – Primary 2 did not take their jotters home….they are still sitting on my table because I forgot to give them out! I promise to send them home tomorrow!)

Nursery Transition

As part of our Transition Process, we are hoping to work with the children in the Nursery throughout the year. (Primary 1 parents may remember we did lots of this last session to ensure the transition from Nursery to Primary 1 went as smoothly as possible.)

Like last year, we are going to give each child in Primary 1 or 2 a Nursery “Buddy” to work with over the year.

Our first transition activity will be Thursday 29th September, when we will be going out around the school grounds on a nature walk. We are hoping to collect some interesting things which we can use back in the classroom to make pictures – look out for photographs later in the week!

Please could you ensure that your child has suitable outdoor shoes and a warm coat for this activity?
