The Parent Council are holding their AGM on Wednesday 24th September at 7pm.  All parents / carers are invited to come along to the informal evening to find out what work the Parent Council has undertaken over the last year.  The Co-op has very kindly donated cheese and wine to help round off the evening.  If you are unable to attend, but would still like to volunteer to become a member, please hand in your volunteer form to school before Wednesday.

  4. Windygoul Parent Council is delighted to invite you the first ever Windygoul Primary School Fair on Saturday 30th May 2009, 11am to 3pm in Windygoul Primary School, Tranent! Please come along to share our event.

Pupils, staff and parents have been hard at work getting everything organised, and there’s something for all the family, from arts and crafts, to ice cream, sponge throwing and beat the goalie.

The whole community is getting involved with stalls from local producers selling candles, jewellery and flowers, and we’ll have a special appearance by the Country Rangers and the Fire Brigade! The Fair will run from 11am until 2pm on Saturday 30th May in Windygoul Primary School grounds.

There will be favourites including home baking, tombola, Keith’s Games, toys and books, ice cream, popcorn, children’s crafts, tattoos. We’ll also have guess the weight of the cake, guess the doll’s birthday, a raffle to win a signed football, and guess how many sweeties in the jar.

Stalls will feature Body Shop goodies, and Utility Warehouse, Recharge and the Playtime Playgroup will be there along with Leith Academy.

Please come along and support our fantastic school community.

  5. Hi everyone

Just to let you all know that we are having a Family Fun night on Saturday 28th March in the Town Hall Tranent. The event will run from 6.30pm to 10pm.

There will be various quizzes, games etc etc on the night and also a disco will be running too.

Tickets will be on sale hopefully at the beginning of next week which will be available from a parent council member. £2.50 for an adult ticket and £1.00 for each childs ticket.

BYOB refreshments and nibbles on the night and I am sure you will have a great time.

All tickets must be purchased prior to the event.

    Thanks
    Dawn

  6. A comment about the disco for nursery to P3 at the Loch Centre at the weekend. My mum took my kids and said that the volume of the music was almost unbearable. She’s a music teacher so she probably has a lower threshold for decibels than most of us. However, she spoke to the DJ at the end and he told her that he had no way of knowing how loud the volume was and that he needed parents/grandparents like her to tell him. As I wasn’t there myself I can’t judge whether it was unreasonably loud but, given concerns about damage – small ears in particular – om loud music, is it possible that in any future situation, there could be a requirement for some sort of decibel meter?

    Thanks,

    Claire

  7. Thanks for comments about communication. Our first newsletter will be out this week with this information included.

Great suggestion about providing information to parents in the playground. We’re already looking into how this might be done (e.g. a notice board in the playground). All suggestions welcome.

  8. I havent heard and no one i have asked knows the names of any of the parents who are working on the different sub groups. Perhaps something can be pinned to the support poles outside the various classrooms for parents to be able to read and to see who is doing what and at what stage they are at.

  9. The communications sub group of the Parent Council is looking for members and any ideas about how to improve communication with all parents and others.

All welcome to our first meeting.

MONDAY 10TH NOVEMBER 2008, 6PM-7.30PM IN THE SCHOOL.

  10. The date of the next Parent Council meeting is Tuesday 2nd December 2008 at 6.30pm in the school, follwed by informal networking over nibbles and refreshments. OPEN TO ALL. Please come along and get involved.

  11. The last Parent Council meeting discussed a number of issues. High on the agenda were our priorities for the next year, including:
    - becomming much better at communicating with the Parent Forum
    - Fundraising
    - Road Safety
    - Campaigning against 2% efficiency savings the school will have to make in 2009/2010

Sub groups have been set up to address each of these issues, so if you want to find out more and get involved in any of these, ley us know.

We also talked about developing story sacks for nusery pupils, making sure every parent has the opportunity to get involved in a way that suits them, and what the vision session at the AGM could bring for us in the future.

Please don’t hesitate to get involved if there’s something you’re unsure about or if you have any ideas about how things are working well.

Watch out for a newsletter soon.

  12. I have discovered a way to get an instant discount on all my household bills and raise funds for the school at the same time.

Who would like to find out more?

  13. Has anyone else noticed the litter gathering around the school? From what we can see, there is only one small bin outside the Co-op shop. After nursery/school, we often notice kids dropping litter after they come out of the shop. Should the shop be responsible for picking up this litter? As parents, should we teach our children to stop dropping litter? Should there be more bins around the shop?
