    Funding Available to get Children Closer to Nature (UK) 

    Arla Foods UK plc has announced that it is inviting applications for funding through its “Get Closer to Nature” Grants Programme.

    Through the programme, grants of up to £1,500 are available to individuals, local community groups and school, etc to enable children to get closer to nature. The type of activities that could be funded can include transforming derelict ground into a beautiful flower garden for the local community to enjoy; clearing an overgrown path to reveal a previously inaccessible area of nature, adding benches to allow everyone to benefit from it; transforming a city centre patch of concrete into a haven for local birds; creating a vegetable patch at your local school to help kids to learn about where food comes from; and bringing just-laid eggs into the city by setting up an urban chicken run.

    The closing date for applications is the 4th June 2012.

    Cemex Community Fund (England, Scotland & Wales) 

    Cemex Community Fund (England, Scotland & Wales)

    The CEMEX Community Fund is a grant-giving fund established by CEMEX under the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme. Its aim is to support sustainable local community and environmental projects within 3 miles of a CEMEX operations. Each year Cemex makes available grants of between £1,000 and £15,000 to support a small number of projects in England , Scotland and Wales .

    Support is available for projects which provide and maintain public parks and amenities when the work protects the social built and/or natural environment and repair, or restore buildings or structures which are of religious, historical or architectural interest. Organisations wishing to apply need to be enrolled as an Environmental Body with Entrust, the Regulator of the Landfill Community Fund.

    Previously funded projects have included:

    • Church roof repairs, kitchen extension to a parish hall
    • Playground initiatives
    • Environmental enhancements; etc.

    The deadline for applications is the 10th September 2012 for Stage 1 Expression of Interest forms.

    North Face: Funding for Childrens Outdoor Recreational Activities (UK) 

    The Outdoor clothing company “North Face” has announced the launch of a new funding round of its Explore Fund.

    The Explore Fund supports not for profit organisations that encourage youth outdoor participation.

    Grants of up to €2,500 are available for projects that encourage community involvement; focus on breaking down barriers to getting youth outdoors; and projects that reach out to a specific community or place of interest.

    Only one Explore Fund financial support package will be given to an organisation in each calendar year and applications that can provide match funding will be viewed favourably.

    The closing date for applications is the 2nd July 2012.

    TESCO: Community Awards (UK) 

    The Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards Scheme provides one-off donations of between £500 and £4,000 to local projects that support children and their education and welfare, elderly people and adults and children with disabilities.

    Previous projects supported have included:

    • Part funding to purchase minibuses
    • Befriending schemes
    • Luncheon clubs
    • Day trips / social trips – for elderly / disabled people
    • Sensory garden or room projects
    • Outdoor classrooms

    The Tesco Charity Trust Trustees also consider grant applications at their tri-annual meetings. These grants range between £4,000 and £25,000 and are to support local, national or international projects in areas where Tesco operate.

    Applications for grants for children and their education and welfare should be made between the 1st May and the 30th June.

    Applications for grants for elderly people and adults and children with disabilities should be made between the 1st August and the 30th September.
