The Parent Council of Dunbar Primary School is organising an amazing weekend-long science festival for families in Edinburgh, the Lothians, the Borders and beyond.

We are building upon the phenomenal success of last year’s first event, where an extraordinary mix of 20 activities attracted over 2,000 visitors during the Sunday afternoon.

This year’s extended programme is fantastic, with 40 event providers delivering an incredible range of science shows, workshops, drop-in sessions, demonstrations and talks.

There are events to suit teenagers and even storytelling for the wee ones. Some of the shows are presented in British Sign Language and all the shows will be BSL/English interpreted.

Dunbar SciFest will take place over the weekend of Saturday, 10th March (10am – 5pm) and Sunday 11th March 2011 (12-5pm) in the John Muir Campus of Dunbar Primary School.

See our website, http://www.dunbarscifest.org.uk, for the packed programme, directions and travel information. The admission charge is £3 per adult and £2 per child, with Family Tickets (up to 5 kids) for £10 and a weekend Family Ticket for just £15.

In the current economic climate, with growing numbers of redundancies, unemployed school and university leavers and funding for community projects on the decrease we need to find enterprising solutions for these challenges and get on with it ourselves by creating social enterprises as a wise alternative!

Social Enterprise in East Lothian will be working in partnership with BRAG Enterprises Ltd to offer people in East Lothian a unique opportunity to do something amazing and start up a social enterprise with all the support you will need. Brag Enterprises has successfully delivered the School for Social Entrepreneurs in Fife since 1992 and along with Social Enterprise in East Lothian are offering the “Motivate to Innovate” programme, which is a new and exciting ERDF funded programme offering business start up support for aspiring social entrepreneurs.

This is a tailored programme of support, which will include social enterprise formation, an introduction to the social economy, feasibility, business sustainability and access to £6k grant monies to develop your idea further. This requires commitment and will pay dividends!

Are you interested?
