Homework

Literacy

P2 and P3 pupils are continuing with their phonics work in class but there are different games and activities that can be done at home to help your child with their learning.
P2 and P3 pupils have been given phonics packs which contain new blends and common words. Each pack
has some suggestions of how to use the cards in a fun and engaging way.
Please continue to use them at home to support your child in reading and writing.

Numeracy

As with phonics, try to make maths as fun as possible at home. It is important for us to show
how maths can be applied to our everyday lives. Below are some suggestions of maths activities that
you could do with your child.
Talk about different quantities of items in the supermarket e.g. I need 6 bananas, or a dozen potatoes
Let your child handle money to pay for items and encourage them to work out how much change will be given.
Quick mental maths addition using car number plates etc.
Point out different shapes that can be seen in the environment.
Weighing and measuring activities through baking or cooking.
Counting items in 1′s, 2′s etc.

Topic

During the year your child may be asked to complete a home learning project linked with our
topic, to complete a piece of research to share in class or to prepare a short talk about
a given category.
