Your homework this week is to design a musical instrument using junk materials. Bring your design into class next Monday (5/3/12). Use the design sheets that you have taken home to help you work through the design stages. Start by deciding what type of musical instrument you will make. For example will it be a shaker, scraper or drum? Make a few rough sketches to try out your ideas. Decide which one you like best and draw it in more detail. Draw it from different perspectives; i.e. from the back front and side. Make notes or annotate your drawings to show what materials, tools and techniques you will use. If you cannot find what you need at home ask in school. Remember we have a glue gun in school which is useful for joining certain materials.
You don’t need to make you musical instrument yet but start collecting the materials you will need and if you can’t wait to get started then go ahead. Just make sure you bring your design to school on Monday 5th March.
Be as creative as you can with your ideas but bear in mind you will need to use your design plan to make up the instrument.
Have fun
