Wallyford Parents and Carers have created their own parent/carer room within the school – not only that – they have designed and created a break away space also.
The P1 parent/carer group who join their children for learning every Friday morning, asked for a designated meeting/gathering space in school.
A room was identified – volunteers then worked with Mrs Stratton and Jackie Dow, P2B Manager to create the space. Parents felt that it would be useful to have a break out space also – a space where they could gather as a bigger group for a book club or with young tots, as well as a place for parents and carers to meet in a bigger group as necessary.
They decorated and furnished both spaces during the week while their children were learning in class.
The result – two fantastic spaces for parents/carers created by parents/carers.
Thank you to everyone who was involved in this project.
I read a quote recently which sits so well with our school and with Curriculum for Excellence:
“Engaging with parents/carers has a significant impact on attitudes and student achievement.” Dylan William

This sounds absolutely fantastic, and I’d love to come and see it. I am the chair of Campie Parent Council and we have a similar room. This has really made a difference to how parents and carers feel about the school. It gives parents and carers a real sense of being an integral part of the school and the kids love knowing we are welcome in their school. Good luck with it.
We would be delighted to have you visit.
Please phone the school to arrange.
we had great fun painting the parents room
