Countries Round the World

At our school open day parents and carers were given the opportunity to visit the different countries in each classroom. Our class focus was the Caribbean, looking especially at Trinidad and Tobago. Visitors got a guided tour around the room, a homemade refreshing smoothie and a change to put their “face in the hole!”. See if you can find yourself or recognise anyone in our photos!

Fairtrade Fortnight

P4W have had a very busy two weeks looking at Fairtrade. We started by having a look at where different products came from. Everyone was very surprised when looking at an atlas to see just how far our products have to travel.

This followed on by looking at the Banana Journey. The class were given no assistance and in their teams they had to re-create the order of the banana journey. Most groups found this quite easy, however they found identifying what stage of the process was a lot harder.

We even managed to include Fairtrade into our spelling activities!

One of our main activities, however, involved writing a very important letter. After studying a video about Fairtrade footballs the class decided to write a letter to a few Scottish football teams to try and persuade them to use Fairtrade footballs. We are still waiting for a reply but we have our fingers crossed!

Finally we finished off our fortnight by having a “Fairtrade Fashion show”. The children applied for individual jobs to be involved with the show, from models to designers, from presenters to security. In teams they each created an outfit for their model made completely of recyclable material. Once we were ready for the main event, we invited the primary 2s and 1s to come along and see the show. Watch the blog closely for a video update!
