Phonics Games

We have been doing lots of phonics work this term to really get to know our sounds.  Today we made games to share with a partner.

How to clean a penny

As part of our health project we talked about what fizzy drinks can do to our teeth if we drink them too much.  Mrs McIntosh showed what happens by cleaning a penny with coke.  You can try this at home by following these instructions.

You will need: an old penny, a plastic tub, a bottle of coke.

1) Pour a small amount of coke into the plastic tub.

2) Place the penny into the coke.

3) Leave for a few hours to soak then turn the penny over and leave overnight.

4) Take penny out and dry.  It should be shiny and new!

Yellow Day Success

The class would like to thank everyone who supported us with our yellow day for Marie Curie Cancer Care on 22nd February.  We raised the grand total of £158 which is terrific for our first fundraising and enterprise activity.  Mrs Williams was the winner of the guess the sweeties in the jar competition.  She guessed 107 and there was 108.

On The Ning Nang Nong

This week we have been learning about words that end in ng and rhyming words.  We really enjoyed listening to the poem by Spike Milligan called On The Ning Nang Nong.  You can listen to the clip here.  On Friday we decorated jibber jabber joo teapots and made a wall display.

Going Yellow!

Tomorrow (22nd February) P1M will be going yellow!  We have spent this afternoon decorating cakes and biscuits with lots of yellow icing and toppings.  We made fairtrade banana muffins and popcorn to sell and yellow bunting to decorate the class.  We will be having a cake sale for P1R and our buddy class, P6/7.  All cakes will be 20p.  There will also be a guess the yellow sweeties in the jar competition for the whole school and each guess will cost 50p.  You can see our preparations below.

Things to do in the holiday

Hi P1M, just in case you get bored during your holiday week here are some things you could do:

1) Have a look at the photographs P5W and P3 have taken and vote for your favourite.  Look at the blog here.

2) Take a photograph (or draw a picture) of something you have done in the holidays and bring it in to show the class.

3) Visit the library and find a book you like to tell us about.

4) Have a look at these websites which will help you with your learning:

www.starfall.com

www.topmarks.co.uk

Have a great week everyone, see you on the 20th!

Listening Skills

This week the class wanted to tell you about listening skills on a Thursday.  They have a booklet of pictures and have to listen to the instructions that Mrs McIntosh reads out in order to complete the picture correctly.  Each person that scores 10/10 gets a sticker and a round of applause.  We record our results each week in a bar graph to show our progress.

Learning Zones

Last week P1M asked for some pictures of them using our learning zones to go on the website.  Today at choosing time Mrs Scott was class photographer and this is what she captured…
