The nursery were raising money today for the British Heart Foundation. Everyone was encouraged to wear something red. The children and staff made £80 by selling cakes.
We went to the nursery to take photos of the occasion.

This week in nursery we have been learning all about our bodies, especially our hearts and how they pump blood around our body. We have been using stethoscopes to listen to our hearts beat and we have been finding our pulses. We have been running around and exercising to get our pulses up. We have been making lots of ‘Heart Art’.
Today is ‘Wear it Red day’ in aid of the British Heart Foundation. We are wearing red and selling red cakes to raise money. We also have a red raffle.
PLAY DOUGH RECIPE
We love playing with play dough in nursery and it is great for strengthening the muscles in little hands. Here is the recipe:
3 cups plain flour
1 ½ cups salt
6 tsp cream of tartar
3 tbl sp vegetable oil
3 cups water
Food colouring/essential oils as required
Put all the ingredients into a pan and stir continuously over a low heat.

So far this year we have been learning all about Chinese New year. It is the year of the dragon. He brings good luck.

We made a big dragon together.
We made Chinese lanterns and tangram pictures. There were triangles and rectangles in them.

We listened to the story about how the animals had a race across the river. The rat won and the New Year was named after him. The other animals took turns after that. We played with the animals and retold the story.

We tasted some different Chinese foods and we had messy play with noodles. They were very slippery!

Now we are learning all about Scottish things. We will put some photographs up soon.
Because it is winter we have been feeding the birds. We have put some new bird feeders up in our nursery garden and we are looking forward to watching our feathery visitors over the next few weeks.

Nursery Fundraising
Our Christmas fair raised a total of £387 for the nursery funds. We have already spent some of it on Christmas activities and outings. A big Thank You to everyone who contributed towards the fair and who came along to support us on the day.
If you would like to take part in the next fundraising group meeting, please add your name to the list in the entrance hall and we will find a day that best suits.

Note for your diary
On Thursday 23rd February we will be supporting the British Heart Foundation Wear it Red Day. We are asking the children to wear red to nursery that day and give a contribution of £1 towards the charity. We will also be having a red raffle and a red cake sale. If you would like to contribute a raffle prize please hand it in to a member of staff, and cakes can be brought in on the Wednesday or Thursday morning.
