Dancing Puffins Flash Mob – Be involved

We would like to invite you and your children to help celebrate the return of the puffins to the Firth of Forth islands and our 12th birthday – it would be fantastic to have you involved!

On Saturday 19 May at 11:00 in a city centre location in Edinburgh (to be confirmed) we would like to have a big group of people dancing to celebrate the return on the puffins – as a flash mob. For many years the number of puffins was in decline, but thanks to work undertaken by the Scottish Seabird Centre’s SOS Puffin campaign the numbers are rising again.

Please help us celebrate by joining in the fun!

The flash mob will take no longer that one hour – media will be invited and there will be filming plus photography taking place. Please note these images will be used in the press, online and on social media platforms.

We will host a practice session for the flash mob on Tuesday 15 May, from 17:00 to 18:00 at North Berwick High School.

Seaside School Official Launch

We are very pleased to announce that Seaside School – our outdoor learning programme was officially launched on Friday. Fiona O’Donnell MP and Ian Gray MSP pulled on their wellies alongside teachers and children to take part in a spot of rockpooling, some beach art and parachute games. Come and join in the fun this term.

Wallyford primary 4 were the first to try out our new Seaside School. Looks like they had lots of fun and learned a lot too. Why not book a visit and come and join us. The summer term is just around the corner and we are filling up fast.

The Scottish Seabird Centre new Outdoors Education Programme will be launched on the 16th March. Teachers, would you like a sneak preview and find out more about what we can do for your class. New Seaside School – outdoor education

1st Seal Pup born

The first seal pup was born on the Isle of May last week. The little boy who spotted the pup on camera has named it Henry. Henry has been joined by a few more over the past couple of days. Seal season is such a magical time at the Centre, with grey seal pups being born almost every day. The Firth of Forth is home to grey seals all year round but throughout October numbers on the Isle of May will rise to around 3,000, making it the largest grey seal colony on the east coast of Britain. Pppp Pick up your pencils – Art Competition

Would you like to see your artwork on sale at the award-winning Scottish Seabird Centre?

The Centre is looking for young artists to come up with a new design for their popular line in tea towels, using the marine life, seabirds and the seaside as inspiration. We are looking for a colourful A4 picture from P1- P7 pupils from across East Lothian.

Judging the Centre’s first ever tea towel design competition will be local artist Jane Alexander who has an eye for young artistic talent.

The winning design will be made into a tea towel which will go on sale in the gift shop: the winner will also receive a bag of goodies from the shop, as will the two runners up.

Nature Photography Competition
It’s not only grown ups that take fantastic photos – at the Scottish Seabird Centre we know you young ones have got imagination and vision too!

So don’t miss the chance to enter our Photography Awards!

This year, those up to age 15 can enter with the theme Back Garden Biodiversity.

So be inspired by anything and everything close to home and be in with the chance of winning a fabulous award and prize (which will be announced soon!).
