Eco Committee Meeting Minutes- 2.2.2012

Eco-Meeting, Thursday 2nd February 2012

 

The Chairperson, Ross Clark welcomed everyone to the meeting.

 

Claire, Demi, Olivia, Lewis, Cameron, Jonah and Fergus are to ask their teachers if it is alright for them to replace the SWPS stones tomorrow morning at 9.00am.

 

The Potato Challenge will start after the February break.

Catrina and Ruby will phone the newspapers about the challenge, the week beginning 20thFebruary.

 

Matthew, Adam, Ross, Sam, Hannah and Alexander will meet on Wednesday morning the 8th February, to write a letter to the parents.

 

Ellis, Christen and Esther will phone Mr Hastie about seed potatoes, before they go to Strawberry Corner for the compost.

 

Bob Clelland has rebuilt the plastic bottle greenhouse.   Well-done Bob.   Jonah, Taryn and Ellie will take photos of the greenhouse and design and write a thank-you card to Bob.

 

The sub-committee for the promotion of using sustainable bags will meet along with the “tattie committee” on Wednesday 8thFebruary, at 11.45am, with Mrs Christian.

The Eco-Committee have to ask their classes, what vegetables or herbs they would like to grow in the garden or greenhouse, bring the results to the next meeting.

Also, what kind of playground equipment, made of natural materials, would the pupils like in the playground?

 

It was suggested that the schools attending the Eco Summit would bring displays with them, showing the eco work that they have been doing in their schools.   Maybe, parents should be invited as well.

 

The Eco-Committee was asked to remind their classes to use the bin in the dining hall for plastic bottles.

 

The next meeting will be held on Thursday 1stMarch 2012.   Catrina will chair this meeting and Clare and Esther will take the minutes.

Potato Growing & Vegtable Garden

The whole school are taking part in a potato competition ,everybody would like  to win and we hope there will be no stealing like last time . They have been growing for some time now and soon they will get weighed.

Primary 6/7 and Primary 7 have been working on the schools vegetable garden and so far they have planted leeks,strawberries,beetroot,poached egg plant & carrots. Primary 7 are growing a chilli plant in thier classroom.
