Have a happy holiday!

Thankyou to all the children and parents of P5T for all your generous presents and lovely cards. It has been an absolute pleasure teaching this class, and after two years I have become very attached to them all. The children have worked hard and deserve to be proud of their achievements! I have lots of lovely memories of our times together! The parents have always been wonderful and hugely supportive, which always makes a big difference, Thank you! Take care and have a great summer!   Karen Thomson X

Hatching Butterflies

We had a butterfly hatching kit in the classroom for a few weeks. The tiny eggs arrived in a small tub which had the food they needed to survive. At first nothing happened, but suddenly after a weekend we noticed that the eggs had changed into five tiny caterpillars. Within a few days they were spinning strange webs inside the tub and growing bigger by the hour.

The caterpillars grew fat and crawled to the top of the tub, where they hung upside down! Gradually their skin became hard and we watched all five caterpillars change into pupa. We then transferred the pupa into our hatching net.

Inside the pupa the butterfly was changing, and we could see through the pupa  silvery wing shapes.

Eventually the pupas hatched into Painted Lady Butterflies. They had beautiful orange and black markings which stood out clearly. The children found plants and leaves to feed them. Even although we had been observing them closely over several weeks, we missed every single pupa hatching into a butterfly!

Eventually, it was time to release the butterflies outdoors among our school plants. At first they didn’t seem to want to leave, and happily settled on people’s hands! It was a little sad to see them go but after a while they flew away to explore their new habitat.

Eco Fashion Show

There were several amazing outfits for our annual ‘Trashion Show’. Kay, Demi, Karla, Nicole, Amy and Christen had clearly spent lots of time on designing and making their outfits from recycled materials. Can you see what they have used ? The results are not only stunning to look at, but also incredibly creative! Well done girls for such a fantastic effort! The fashion show was great fun with some spectacular entries this year. The winners were Douglas and Gregor Brunton in their Jubilee suits.
