The homework challenge this week is to make a recycled outfit for the Eco Fashion Show. Costumes should be brought in on Thursday so we can vote for 3 winners who will take part in the fashion show.

Judges are looking for a splash of red this year.

Worm Charming

P2T have been carrying out an investigation this afternoon. Miss Thomson told us about 3 ways to charm worms. Before we started the investigation we predicted what way we thought would attract the most worms. The 3 different ways were:

*Making the ground wet

* Dancing and singing for the worms

* Sending vibrations through the ground by pricking the ground with garden forks

Most of the class thought that making the ground wet would make the most worms come up from the ground. Each group had 3hoops. We had a hoop to pour water in, a hoop to sing and dance in and a hoop to prick the ground with garden forks. We did this for 5 minutes and then stopped. We sat for the next 5 minutes, watching our hoops and putting a tally mark on our table each time we saw a worm.

What method do you think charmed the most worms to the top of the soil? Leave us a comment to let us know.

Pitfall Trap

Today we have been making traps to catch minibeasts. Here are some instructions in case you would like to make one at home.

First you need an old tub like an old jam jar. Dig a hole in the mud in your garden so the container fits in it.
Next place some mud and leaves inside your container. Make sure there is enough so that you keep any minibeasts you catch happy and healthy.
Then put your container in the hole you have dug and then make it secure by carefully pushing soil around the container. Make sure the soil is level with the rim of the jar.
Finally make a roof for over the top of your container. You could use broken bits of plant pot or a container lid. Use stones to hold it up so minibeasts can get in. This will protect your minibeasts from birds and rain.
