Our Assembly: The Sad Story of Slavery

On Monday Primary 7 put on “The Sad Story of Slavery” for Primary 2/3-6/7. It was the culmination of many weeks of learning and lots of practice too! Here are some photos of our performance:

This is how we thought it went: (pink is for tickled pink and green is an area for growth!)

“The narrators were very clear and loud.” -Aimee

“The quality of acting was good. When Ross was going to be hit, he got frightened and moved away from Jordan.” -Ryan

“Everyone came on at the right moment and said their lines at the right time.” -Ross

“Most people spoke loudly and you could hear them.”- Charlie

“We had fun, but we took it seriously.” -Lauren K

“All actors kept serious faces and spoke well when talking to the audience.” -Taryn

“Everyone behind the screens remained quiet during the performance.” -Billy

“The actors used the props well to support the play.” -Kloe

“Jordan fell down at the right moment when Charlie pretended to hit him.”- Lauren C.

“Everyone worked well as a team. Everyone supported me when I forgot one of my lines.” -Kalib (Kalib had a lot of lines to remember and did really well to learn them all.)

“We actually did well. It was a big step forward for us!” Kyle

“Some people without a mic couldn’t be heard so well. Next time we need more mics or to speak louder.” -Alex

“Everyone could have used more expression in their voices.” -Kalib

“People should learn their lines better.” -Chloe

“We could have had more speaking parts.” – Charlie

“We should do more performances in order to become more confident at speaking in front of large crowds.” -Mrs Pearce

Salt Dough Christmas Ornaments

Today we mixed up salt dough and used cookie cutters to make some beautiful snowflakes, stars, snowmen and gingerbread men. They are drying now and we can’t wait to decorate them on Wednesday morning after our Christmas Panto. Check back here to see how they turn out!

Carol Singing at Fa’side Nursing Home

On Thursday members from Primary 6S and 7P shared some Christmas joy with the residents of Fa’side Nursing home in Tranent. We sang lots of our favourite carols, enjoyed meeting the residents and were unexpectedly treated to juice and biscuits!

2011 Winter Market

Last Saturday SWPS Parent Council organised a Winter Market to raise funds for the school. Four Primary 7 pupils gave up their Saturday morning to run a face painting and special effects stall that raised more than £75! Well done to Teri, Alex, Chloe and Ross for your hard work! Thank you to Kalib for his super help in running another stall. Many thanks to the talented Mrs Totten for teaching P7 pupils the skills involved in face painting and special effects make up.

Kidnapped! Storyline

On Tuesday we began our new storyline, Kidnapped! We found out that Jack and Sarah Green have gone missing from Green Manor. Their father discovered a ransom note left by someone who wants to prevent his wind farm project from going ahead. We have familiarized ourselves with a map of the local area, have written a list of suspects and have completed an artist’s impression of our main suspect based on an eyewitness report. We have also written press releases to the local news paper.

Our storyline began with a map of Scotland

Ghost Stories with Spooky and Kooky

Spooky and Kooky visit P7

On Monday, October 31st, Minnie and Winnie from Spooky and Kooky (aka Angie and  Nicola) came to Sanderson’s Wynd to celebrate Halloween with P7 and P6/7 by sharing some spooky ghost stories. We enjoyed their tales, especially the last one which really gave us a fright!

After their visit we used some of their ideas and techniques to help us think up ghost stories of our own. We did some planning early on in the week using a story mountain. Then we told our stories to one another and recorded them as well. Finally we began writing our first drafts, which we’ll be finishing on Monday. We will be evaluating each other’s work before revising and getting on with our final copies and adding illustrations.

Parents and carers are warmly invited to come and see our finished books on Monday, 14th of November at 2:00 pm. We hope to see you all there!

Realistic Reptiles

In our sessions with our specialist art teacher, Mrs Mccaw, we have drawn reptiles (similar to the yellow-spotted lizards from Holes). We have added detail like skin texture and now we are adding colour. Have a look at some of our work in progress.

Holes Hot Seating

In our drama session this afternoon we explored the characters of Holes through hot seating. It was the first time we had tried it and we did really well. Several of us were brave enough to sit before the class in role and answer questions. Sarah was a brilliant Stanley, Ross was a super Zero, Jordan was a very convincing Warden and Kyle was a fabulous ZigZag! It really tested our knowledge of characters and plot!
