Parent Representative needed for the SQA’s Sciences Curriculum Review Group

The East Lothian Association of Parent Council Members are looking for a new parent representative to join the SQA’s [Scottish Qualification Authority] Sciences Curriculum Review Group who meet 3 times a year in Glasgow.  Most of the group’s current work concerns reviewing draft course outlines and approaches, most of which is now laid down to be consistent with parameters common to all subjects at National 4 – new Highers.  You are led through updates and drafting quite thoroughly and the representative would contribute just by offering suggestions about how parents might perceive certain ideas and communications and encourage CARG to remember parents’ roles and interests while drawing up the new syllabi and course information.

The next meeting will take place on Wednesday 30 May.

Ruth Briggs, former Chair of East Lothian Association of Parent Council Members has been our representative for the past few years and as Ruth’s children have now left school she feels she in not able to keep in touch with the school end of things and that it would be better for both parents and CARG if a current parent (of high school child/ren) could take on the role.  Ruth would be happy to speak to any interested parent and provide further information.

If you would like to find out more or take on this position please email your interest to parentcouncil@eastlothian.gov.uk
