EAST LOTHIAN, 17TH MARCH 2012 – Youngsters across the Lothian area are being given the chance to be immortalised in print this month, when award-winning horror author Barry Hutchison visits Waterstones at Fort Kinnaird to sign copies of his books.
Former Dunbar resident Barry will be in store on Saturday the 17th of March promoting his latest novel – comedy fantasy adventure, THE 13TH HORSEMAN – which is published on March 1st.
He will also be signing the first five books in his Invisible Fiends horror series. The first book in the series – MR MUMBLES – won the Royal Mail Award for Scottish Children’s Books in 2011, after thousands of children across Scotland voted it their favourite.
Now Barry is giving one of those children the opportunity to appear as a character in the final book in the series, which is published in August this year.
“I was so grateful that Mr Mumbles was voted the winner of its category in the Royal Mail Awards that I wanted to repay the favour somehow,” said Barry. “When I do school visits lots of kids ask me if I can write them into my books, so I thought, ‘Why not?’.”
To be in with a chance of appearing in the final Invisible Fiends book – THE DARKEST CORNERS – stop by Waterstones at Fort Kinnaird between noon and 1pm on the 17th, when Barry will be doing his signing, and enter your name into the prize draw.
At the end of the signing session Barry will draw the winning name. As well as having their name used in the story, the winner will also receive a signed copy of the finished book when it is published in August.
Jonny West, Children’s Expert at the Fort Kinnaird Branch of Waterstones, said: “Barry’s Invisible Fiends books have a loyal fan base in the store, and we’re excited that one of our customers will get the chance to appear as a character in the series itself!”
Later that day, Barry will be holding the first ever author event at the new Library, Archive Centre & Museum building in Haddington, where he will be talking about the inspiration behind The 13th Horseman and the Invisible Fiends books.
