We have been discussing how the Earth might have looked when dinosaurs roamed the lands. We discovered that there were no people and no grass – the land had ferns and other plants instead of grass. We discovered that there were lots of different types of dinosaur – some lived on land, some in water and some flew. We looked at lots of theories about why the dinosaurs became extinct and put it to a vote. The majority thought that a meteor had hit the Earth causing earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, killing all the dinosaurs. We decided that we wanted to make our role-play area into a dinosaur world. We made a volcano out of cardboard and papier mache. Then we painted it – making sure you could see all the lava coming out! We have dinosaur masks and like to pretend we are dinosaurs. We will make some giant trees and ferns to go in our role-play soon – the leaves are ready, we just have to make the trunks!
