Parents and teachers at PPS are planning an exciting week-long reading event in the Autumn term but we need your help to make it happen. Read on to find out more…
Why hold a Reading Week?
Reading is the key to accessing all kinds of learning, opportunity and enjoyment in life. By involving pupils, teachers, families and our local community in a reading event, we hope to further inspire our young readers (and ourselves!).
What will happen during the Reading Week?
Planning is very much in the early stages, but it is hoped that there will be a variety of reading events held in school throughout the week (during and outside school hours) as well as an emphasis on reading and literature in the classroom. We also plan to hold an optional sponsored “Read-A-Thon”, with fantastic prizes for individual children and classes who clock up the most reading over the week.
Who will take part?
The event is being organised for pupils by parents and teachers of Pencaitland Primary School, but our hope is that we will also get other community groups involved.
When is it happening?
Monday 29th October – Friday 2nd November 2012
How can I get involved?
An event like this cannot be held without the time and support of parents and other volunteers. At the start of the next school year, we will be giving you more details on a variety of ways you can get involved.
Right now, we are looking for parents who are interested in helping to plan the event. We will be holding an initial meeting in school on Tuesday 29th May at 7:30pm.
Don’t worry if you can’t make this date but still want to be involved – give us your details and we will keep you in the loop. Remember that the Reading Week is still very much in the early planning stages, so this is a great opportunity to help the week take shape.
Please help us to make this event a success!
