The blog is ready!
Apologies for the delay with the blog but we are ready for action now. P6 have been busy preparing for the Christmas concert. We have been reading “A Christmas Carol” and learning all our words for the show.
P6 have also been looking at Children’s Rights and Responsibilities. We found this lovely little book online so have a look: http://www.unicef.org/rightsite/files/little_book_rights.pdf
School Trip
We had a fantastic trip to Parliament last week. We enjoyed our tour and then had a walk up the Royal Mile and visited the Museum of Childhood.
Sports Day
Congratulations Nick, Vangjel and Miriam for winning medals at our Sports Day today. Well done to everyone for taking part. We had loads of fun!
French
P6 love to share their learning. We have been learning French this year and have been visiting P2 and P3 classes to teach them how to say a few words in French.
Open Morning
Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to our maths open morning. The class were delighted to be able to show you what we had been up to.
We showed the parents how we can make 3-D shapes out of clay and other materials, maths games on the netbooks, fraction games and lots more.
Maths Road Show
We had great fun exploring lots of different problem solving activities at the maths Road Show.
Maths Week
Today was the start of Maths Week at Sanderson’s Wynd. We had a problem solving workshop today with a maths teacher from Ross High. We were given Jelly Babies (yummy!) and dry spaghetti and told to build a cube. We had to think hard and work as a team and after a few tries we were all successful! Have a look at all the different ideas and techniques we came up with.
P6 did some signalong with the nursery. We have been learning some number songs for maths week so we taught the nursery children how to sign “5 Little Ducks” and “5 Little Speckled Frogs”. We wanted to sing Humpty Dumpty too as we like that one! Afterwards we had a look round the nursery to see the different ways maths is taught to the littles ones.
Scottish SPCA
Today we had a visit from Jenny from the Scottish SPCA. She spoke to us about animal welfare and important job this animal charity does. We learned how we can become responsible animal friendly citizens around our school and in our communities and help the SSPCA help look after all of the animals in Scotland.
French
P6 love learning French so they decided to share this enthusiasm with some other classes in the school who don’t get French lessons yet. Last Friday a group taught P3P a little of what they have been learning. They have also been to teach P2T the colours in French.
Litter Pick
The pupils at Sanderson’s Wynd took part in a litter pick in and around the school grounds. P6 made a tally chart showing the most common litter types found.
