Police Vandalisim Talk

On Tuesday the 8th November 2011
P6A went to Haddington Police Station to receive a talk about vandalism. In this talk we were told about the different types of vandalism. After discussing the types(graffiti, fire raising and property damage to name a few),we drew what we thought vandals looked like. Most people seem to think that they wore hoodies and baseball caps and used spray paint. After this we were shown pictures of vandalism(broken gravestone, smashed building supplies, shattered school window and a burned garage) . No-one had a clue what linked them but they were all committed by under-13s. we were then shown how much all this costs the council. We were told that if you commit an act of vandalism then your future employers are sent your criminal record. Commit three acts of vandalism and you get a fine and/or an Asbo. We learned lots and I really enjoyed it!

Dynamic Earth

A few Wednesdays ago P6 visited Dynamic Earth. It had lots of information however it transpires that the time machine is really an elevator with glass sides and pictures on the outside ;( .   My favorite bit of the visit was the 4D (Yes,4D!) Endeavor earthcraft that showed you the different biomes of the Earth. We learned lots of things there, such as that when two tectonic plates collide, the one with more water(or which ever one is heavier) will be dragged into the mantle by it’s own weight.

Netbooks in P6!

Recently we were given personal netbooks for use in class. The netbooks are used frequently. We always bring them to maths sets, even if we don’t use them(mathletics isn’t working,so what else can we do!). With them we have been shown edubuzz and we have been given our own personal edubuzz accounts. They make it much easier to use the internet in class but we still sometimes use the laptops for technical reasons.
If we are well behaved, we get free time on our netbooks. With our free time you can play a game or go on the internet(or at least the sites with no blocker).
