Higher/ I2 Unit Test Practice
Select an activity ———————————————
Select an area of analysis———————————–
Specific aspect of performance—————————
Question 1
In your response you should give a clear and detailed description about the methods used (both initial and focused).
You should also include a clear and detailed explanation about why you selected the methods used – validity, reliability etc.
Initial
General checklist (describe fully as if to a blind person)
How did you use it?
Why
Identify strengths and weaknesses
Easy to use / use to compare / reliable / permanent / refer back to it
Focused
Movement Analysis Sheet (describe fully as if to a blind person)
Shot Placement Sheet ( describe fully as if to a blind person )
How did you use it?
Why
Identify strengths and weaknesses within shot
Breaks shot into preparation , action and recovery
Easy to use / anyone can fill it in / reliable permanent / use to compare
Question 2 (a)
In your response you should refer consistently to the information contained in your data methods and give detailed examples about your specific strengths and weaknesses when performing in whole performance (initial data) and isolation (focused data).
Whole performance (initial data)
Strengths with data
Give all your STRENGTHS from GCL with the DATA
What do your strengths allow you to do?
Weaknesses with data
Give all your WEAKNESSES from GCL with the DATA
What do your weaknesses hinder you from doing?
Isolation (focused data)
Strengths with data
Give all your STRENGTHS from MAS / SPS with the DATA
What do your strengths allow you to do?
Weaknesses with data
Give all your WEAKNESSES from MAS / SPS with the DATA
What do your WEAKNESSES allow you to do?
Question 2 (b)
Give a clear and detailed description of the specific aspect of your performance you intend to develop to make your performance more effective (development needs).
Consider what benefits this would have.
My development needs are:
Explain the sub-routines you need to work on and how these hinder your full performance
By improving my development needs I would hopefully be able to:
What will you hopefully be able to do in a full performance situation with these improvements?
How will your game change?
What will you be able to make your opponent do as a result of your weakness being addressed?
Question 3 and 4 6 marks each
Area of analysis: Skills and Techniques
Key Concepts: The concept of skill and skilled performance.
Skill / technique improvement through mechanical
analysis or movement analysis.
The development of skill and the refinement of
technique.
Selected key concepts / features.
Question 3
Key concept: The concept of skill and skilled performance.
Key feature: Use of model performer (handout 1/7 )
Question 4
Key concept: The development of skill and the refinement of
technique.
Key feature: the stages of learning (handout 3/1 and 3/2)
By studying these concepts / features what do you now know that you did not know before?
Use of a model performer Stages of learning
A model performer carries There are 3 stages
out all parts of the skill of learning:
correctly, fluently and with Planning (give definition)
control. Practice (give definition)
Automatic (give definition)
I can compare myself to a model
performer Each stage requires different
methods of practice
There should not be too big a gap
between me and the model performer
A model performer can break a skill
into small parts
I can use a model performer for
motivation
Question 5 6 marks
How did you use the knowledge that you now have to help you design a programme to improve your identified weakness?
You must give personal examples of how you used the knowledge.
Use of a model performer:
I watched ? who carried out all parts of the (your shot) correctly and I could see how it should be performed.
I compared myself to all the sub-routines of the model performer using a MAS to identify my strengths and weaknesses within the shot and I identified (? ) as my weakness – this allowed me to design a programme of improvement specific to my identified needs. I focused mainly on ( ? ) and missed out the other sub-routines.
Stages of learning:
I know I am at the (?) stage of learning which meant I needed to make my practices:
Practice stage Automatic stage
Repetitive to groove movements Demanding and game-like
Little pressure Lots of pressure
Possible for me to receive feedback 2 feeders
I control feed Random feeds
Low-medium target /20 High target /20
Large or no target area Small target area
Question 6 6 marks
Describe in full detail your programme of improvement.
(Handout 3/7)
Always add
Skill
Issue
Your stage of learning and why
Methods of practice used and why (relate to your stage of learning)
Your target /20
Work to rest ratio – see handout 3/5 points 1-4
Description
Where you stand
Where the feeder stands
Who controls the feed and why
Flight of the feed
Flight of your shot
Target area of the ball to land/reach
If you move where do you go/return
HOW DOES YOUR DRILL RELATE TO YOUR ISSUE EXACTLY
Question 7 4 marks
Why would you change your programme and what changes did you / did you not make?
I did not adapt my progamme but I would for the following reasons:
I identified a more major weakness
It was too easy (state how you could make it harder)
It was too difficult ( state how you could make it easier)
I got injured (how could you alter it? )
I was ill (how could you alter it?)
Question 8 4 marks
How did you monitor your programme of work?
Why was it important to monitor your programme of work?
Training log
DURING MAS
DURING SPS
Teacher feedback
Achieving target /20
Landing in target area consistently
Question 9 (handout 3/12) 6 marks
Have you improved?
How have you improved –from AFTER MAS identify sub-routines
What can you now do that you could not do before? – in a game
What do you think caused the change / lack of change to your performance –
which particular bits from your training programme?
Would you alter your programme of improvement in any way and why?
Discuss AFTER DATA for all points you make!
Question 10 4 marks
What would you try to improve in the future either within the same skill or another skill?
Give reasons for this decision.
Do you still have any weaknesses in the skill from your after MAS?
What other shots did your GCL identify as a weakness – provide DATA!
