Battleships & Co-ordinates

Mrs Stark’s maths group put their co-rdinates and grid skills to good use when they took part in a Battleships tournament. Having put their skills into practice with a homework task first, it was time for the real thing! There were lots of sunken aircraft carriers and tug boats – and a lot of strategic co-ordinate planning. Some people from the group took their skills to the P2/3 Playground and used the grid painted on the ground to place each other at specific points.

Flip Flap Frenzy

Last week all the pupils in primary 5 learned how to create different folds and flaps in order to make really interesting cards and books. They will use these as a way to share the interesting information they have been researching on sea creatures and the coast.

They will share their creations with you here.

Rockpool Ramble

All primary 5 classes are going down to investigate the rockpools at their local beach this month with Jen Edwards, our friendly neighbourhood ranger.

Primary 5c were successful in their visit, however high winds thwarted the other two classes visits who are hoping to try again on Wednesday 29th September..weather permitting.

They have been developing their research skills and learning about what to expect when they are there. They have also been really thinking about seashore safety and the importance of being responsible when rockpooling.

They will tell you all about their findings in their comments.

Symmetry Saunter

Today (Thursday) Mrs Macniven`s maths set went outside to do a Symmetry Saunter all around the school to see how many things they could find that were symmetrical.

They tried to challenge themselves so they were not just looking for things with only ONE line of symmetry. Here are some of the things they found.
