Paraig the Storyteller fae Perthshire

Paraig in the Highlands

The primary 5s had a very special visitor today. Paraig MacNeil came to tell us some Scottish Folk Tales and even taught us some songs in Norweigan and in Scots. We heard a tale about the Selkies, who were seal folk, and a tale about a nasty king who thought his joker (or jester) was foolish…little did he know that HE was the real fool. Our task was to retell one of the stories Paraig told us to a P4 and/or to our families when we got home, so… How did we do?

  1. I really enjoyed Padraid the story teller when he told the story of the witches It was quite funny and he described It really well. The Instrument was good when he played it. His is blue bonnet was nice I would like to have It.

  2. My favourite part of The Witches Of Kintail was when the guards found the fisherman sleeping in the wine cellar and he was sentenced to death to be burned! because they thouht that he was a wizard. The person who was going to light the match asked the fisherman if there was a last request before he died. He asked if he could put the blue bonnet on his head, and he said yes. Then lighted the match and threw it on to the heaps of logs. As soon as the flames were below his feet he shut his eyes tight and shouted Kintail and suddenly he was shooting through the sky 188miles per hour over the boreder over Ben Nivis and landed back in Scotland.

  3. I liked Padraid because he was nice , funny and the best story teller that has came to school . But when I walked into the room to meet him I got a fight . Because I was thinking he was going to be a little young lady or something like that . But he was a tall Scottish man so you could imgine how I felt It was very good I wish he came every day to tell us a story.

Here is a riddle he told us “What is higher than the highest, lower than the lowest, dead people eat it and if you eat it you die”? Answer Nothing.

  12. That is so good to hear! Well done, Caitlin for being a great storyteller and for being the first to post your homework on the blog! (Thanks to Caitlin’s mum too)

  13. I enjoyed the story about The Joker, which Caitlin told me very well. She had a little trouble remembering to begin with, but once she got started there was no stopping her. I was able to picture the story due to her description.

  14. Well done, Caitlin! You got there in the end! Could you possibly get mum or dad to write a wee comment too on how you got on? Thanks!
