Parent Council’s Annual Parent Forum- 3rd September

We are pleased to invite you to the Parent Council’s Annual Parent Forum meeting on Monday, 3rd September at 7pm in the gym hall.
As a parent of the school you are automatically a member of the whole Parent Forum, which is represented for practical purposes by a committee of parents, staff and community members (the Parent Council).  All of the Parent Council’s meetings are open to any parents who want to come along, but we have one open meeting each year for the Parent Forum as a whole.
This year we are delighted to invite you along to meet our new Head Teacher, Mrs Jill Wareham.  She is going to introduce herself and talk about her own principles and values, as well as what she thinks are the priorities and challenges for Law Primary in the future.  She will also be happy to take questions from parents. 
The evening will also consist of a short AGM for the Parent Council and a report of our work, as well as an opportunity to chat informally over soft drinks and nibbles.

Health Week Information

HEALTH WEEK FOCUS- THE FOUR PARALYMPIC VALUES: 

  DETERMINATION- COURAGE- EQUALITY- INSPIRATION

Next week, week beginning 20th August will be our annual Health Week for Primary 2-7. Primary 1 will have their own Health Week later in the year once they have settled into school. 

 The focus for this year’s Health Week is the Paralympics and we encourage you to help your child find out a bit about the lives of some of the Paralympians. Pupils will experience a wide range of activities and should come to school each day wearing their outdoor PE kit. They will also require an indoor PE kit.
  • 4A will start their swimming lessons on Tuesday and will need swimming kit with them every Tuesday until 30th October.
  • Primary 5 will need their bikes for Ready Steady Bike on Thursdays for the next 3 weeks. Primary 5 should not cycle to school without an adult. If no adult is available then they should walk the bike to and from school.
  • Primary 6′s will need their bikes as follows:
Mondays 6A, Tuesdays 6B and Wednesdays 6C for the next 2 weeks.
Please note that pupils are not permitted to cycle to school unaccompanied until they have completed their cycle proficiency test in P6. The test does not mean they are safe on their bike but shows that they have had experience of the course. It is up to you as parents to make the decision as to whether you feel your child can ride a bike in a safe and responsible manner.
 
There should be no cycling within the school grounds at any time. Bikes must be dismounted outside the gates and walked.
 
  • Primary 7 will be going out to the bowling club on Monday and the Children’s Golf Club on Thursday. Please bring one golf club and a ball, a 6 or 7 iron is best. Do not go out and buy anything as we will share what comes in.

 We do desperately need parent helpers for these two events to take place.

 
We continue to encourage healthy eating including healthy snacks. We would like children to have a healthy snack Mondays to Thursdays with a treat if you wish on a Friday.
 
We would like to thank the clubs and parents who are giving their time free of charge during health week as without them we would not have a Health Week.

Funday Monday

On Monday, the whole school took part in a Funday Monday. The day began with our secret suprise for Mr Barnes. All the school formed the letters of a message as he took to the skies in a microlight. After which, we formed two columns waving our flags for the North Berwick High School Cluster Olympic Torch procession. Our version of the Olympic torch left the HIgh School yesterday and will visit all of our cluster schools before returning through Law Primary to the High School on Friday morning for our closing ceremony. After an early break the whole school took part in two Aerobic routines before splitting into four different groups to take part in all the activities. Meanwhile, Mr Barnes (having recovered for his airborne adventure) was hosting tea and coffee for our invited parents and carers. They were entertained by various pupils performing dances and playing musical instruments. There was also time to look round the fantastic Olympic Art exhibition in the gym hall. Activities for the pupils included Boccia, Basketball, Parachute, Bat and Ball, Co-operative Bands, Hoop games, skipping and Ultimate Frisbee for the Primary 7s. Lunch was a special BBQ. Everybody enjoyed the morning and it was a super start to our final week of your year.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No- It is Mr Barnes!

This morning the school surprised Mr Barnes with a microlight flight all around North Berwick. It was organised by the management of the school as a thank you and a goodbye gift for Mr Barnes. All the classes went outside with their Olympic country flags and each class represented a different letter which read ‘We love all Mr Barnes!’. Busy Days at Law Primary…

With the end of term only a week away, you would be forgiven for thinking that things are the school are winding down for the year- but this time actually marks the culmination of several projects that different year stages and classes have been working on, as well as some of our annual events. As such, all the pupils been working very hard across the school. Have a look at the brief update below and see if you can decide which year stage has been the busiest!

Not even at the school yet, but new year’s Primary 1 intake have visited the school alongside their parents and carers to meet their new Primary 1 teachers and have a look at the school. We are looking forward to you all becoming part of our school in August!

Primary 1 worked hard in their music classes and in their classrooms to prepare for their annual book ceremony which took place on Thursday afternoon. All the individual classes impressed their guests with their singing and excellent behaviour.

Primary 2 have been finishing off their Seashore topic, including an exciting trip to the beach on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week. Working with our local ranger, Sam, Primary 2 explored the rockpools looking for different types of sea life and seaweed.

Primary 3 are still working hard on their Enterprise project which will take place this coming Wednesday afternoon. The pupils have come up with all the ideas themselves and each have different roles and responsibilities in producing their Olympic Fair. Primary 1 and 2 have been invited to visit the Fair and I know both year stages are very excited.

All three year stages took part in their annual Infant Sports on June 11th as well as working individually in classes to prepare for the surprise ‘Goodbye’ assembly for Miss Skinner which took place on Friday.

Primary 4 have been working hard on their Castles topic. This involved all the classes visiting Dirleton Castle and exploring the topic through art and literacy. Two weeks ago they held a Castle Day in school and all the pupils dressed up (and their teachers too!) for the themed day.

Primary 5 have also been working hard to achieve their John Muir Award. Again, working with our local Ranger, this has involved visits to the beach to clean it up as well as work to do with the Law. On Friday, the pupils received their awards for all their hard work. The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment, in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration. Well done Primary 5!

Primary 6 had a very busy time during the last week as it was their annual Activity Week. Activities included drumming, games, skipping, water-sports and walks. Everyday the pupils engaged with another different activity and all the pupils I spoke to had thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Primary 7 had a very important week as it was their transition to the High School on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This is a very poignant time for the pupils (and teachers!) where feelings of excitement and anticipation mingle with nostalgia for their ‘primary school days’ and some feelings of apprehension. As usual, all the Primary 7 staff were impressed by the behaviour and conduct of our pupils as they took part in the cluster activity day on Wednesday. Our school certainly seemed a lot quieter this week without them there…

In our gym hall, you can see examples of Olympic Art produced by every year stage in school as part of our O-law-mpics focus. You may also notice the garden at the front of the school beginning to take shape as well.

So as you can see, everyone in the school has been very busy and although the end is in sight, we still have quite a few activities and events in the coming week to successfully get through! First up in our Funday Monday on Monday morning with, hopefully weather permitting, our re-arranged Middle and Upper Sports in the afternoon. The Primary 7s have their own transfer ceremony to take part in. We will have events to mark the close of our school wide focus on the Olympics as well as our more traditional end of year events. All this and the classes will have a chance to meet their new teachers for next session and see their new classrooms! So if you think your pupil seems a little tired lately- you know why!

Monday 18th June 2012- Weblog Refresh

As you may have noticed, we have been doing some work to update our school weblogs. Please bear with us while we implement our new, and hopefully, improved format. Our new makeover includes a new theme, updated pages and a consistent layout across all the sites. Small changes you may observe include the changing pictures- all the photos you can see in the panel above are photos of current work or events from around the school. They should change every time you change page or refresh the site. We have also tried to make it easier to click through to a specific year stage site by including a side menu as well as the drop-down menu at the top. All the school sites now have the red school background as well. 

We hope the site will be easier to use and looks a bit fresher and up to date. Let us know what you think- any feedback or comments would be welcomed!

P4-7 SPORTS DAY CANCELLED

Unfortunately we have to announce the cancellation of the P4-7 Sports today, Friday 15 June.

Our apologies for any inconvenience this will cause. It will now take place on Monday 25th June at 1.15pm, weather permitting.
