Kingsmeadow PTA meeting – Monday 31st January 2011

Present: Alison Hunton, Fiona Melville, Heather Campbell, Christine Aylward, Kay Boylan, Carolyn Green, Claire Swanston, Shan McKay

Apologies: Brian Smith, Wendy Neill, Michelle Lynn

ITEM   ACTION
P6/7 Disco We were lacking inspiration for a theme for the disco and asking around amongst the kids hadn’t produced any ideas either.  Carolyn suggested that we don’t have to tie the disco in with Valentine’s Day and maybe do it in March.  Everyone agreed that was a great idea – for one thing it gives us more time to organise it.  A suggested theme was Mad March which gives us plenty of scope for games etc.  We decided the date will be Thursday 17th March which is, as Carolyn pointed out, St. Patrick’s Day so we will do Mad March/St. Patrick’s Day as a theme.

Alison wondered if we could get someone from red Flame Dance Studio to do a hip-hop class during the disco.  She will find out.

The volunteers to organise the disco are: Fiona, Carolyn, Christine & Heather.

Beetle Drive Alison will be organising this event but will of course need help on the night. Friday 6th May has been suggested as a date but Alison will confirm. Alison
Festival

Cafe

The date for this is likely to be Monday 30th May.  Carolyn made the point that we should start getting organised now.  Alison suggested a few names of ‘volunteers’ who she could recruit to help with the organisation and running of the Café.  She will ask them.  We think that it is important that some of the P4 parents get experience of what’s involved in organising the Café as eventually the people who usually organise it will no longer be in the PTA.  Carolyn and Fiona have agreed to help with the organisation but hopefully not have to be there the whole time on the actual day.

ALL

Funding

Request

Brian had asked Claire to request funding for new televisions.  At the moment the school have only TVs with built in DVDs which really do not work well.  Claire has done a little research and thinks that 30” TVs would be about £200 each.  We all agreed in principal that we are happy to fund this and have asked Claire to do a bit more research including product reviews.  Claire will report back.

Claire

Website Carolyn suggested that we should update the PTA section of the School Website.  Claire is no longer on the Website team but Mr McEwan is updating the site and he will go through the procedure re updating the PTA section.  Kay has been volunteered to do this as she has great IT skills.

Kay

Cloakrooms Kay raised the issue of lack of space in the cloakrooms and wondered whether the PTA could pay for anything which would provide a solution.  Kay wondered about either drawstring bags or boxes.  After a discussion we agreed that we will trial drawstring bags with Claire’s year group – P5s.  We will try to source drawstring bags at Fenton Barns – Alison will investigate.  The kids could put their clothes into the bags and hang them up with their PE kits although the shoes have to stay on the floor.  We will purchase 100.

PTA cupboard Fiona raised the issue of the PTA cupboard being untidy again.  It was put back neatly after the Halloween disco and also after the P6 Xmas Fair so we are unsure how it has got into such a mess.  Katrina, Kay & Christine have volunteered to tidy the cupboard and furthermore to make up spreadsheets of everything in there for future reference.

2nd Hand Uniform Carolyn wondered whether we want to sell 2nd school uniform at the HIS Spring Fair this year.  We will have to find out the date.  One of the things to go on the School website can be an appeal for used items of school uniform.

Kay

Bike sale Katrina made an excellent suggestion that if we have a 2nd hand bike stall again that we include sports equipment in general.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday 2nd March at 7pm

  1. Avatar of Angus McEwan Angus McEwan says:

Great to see everything you are doing!

The problem is the TVs we have all have different makes/models with them. The remotes disappear and it gets confusing with all different models.

If we had a number of combis would be easier. Appreciate you looking into this ;)
