Thursday 3rd May – Election Day

We learned that we couldn’t hold our gym lesson in Humbie Village Hall as usual on Thursday 3rd May because of the local elections. We decided to find out for ourselves what this meant and what was happening in the Village Hall. First we looked at the boards outside and learned the names of the candidates of the four main parties. Then we went to the Village Hall and read the words Polling Place on the door which, means the place you go to cast your vote. We were very lucky because the Hall was empty and the Polling Place staff said we could have a look inside. The staff told us what happens when someone comes to vote and that you have to be over 18 years old to vote. We also learned that the staff had to be there until 10pm!

We can see the Hall from our playground so we looked for voters arriving to cast their vote at playtime and lunchtime – it was very interesting!
