Mr Gaston came to talk to us today about his job as a consultant paediatric orthopaedic surgeon. Mr Gaston told us how we can help our bones to grow strong and healthy and we know that foods containing calcium and protein are particularly important for growing bones. We also learned that children’s bones heal much faster than adult bones!
Mr Gaston told us about a 12 year old boy who kept dislocating his knee because his bones had not developed normally. Then we watched a film of the operation that Mr Gaston carried out to repair the boy’s knee – it was amazing! Now the little boy can lead a normal, active life.
Last of all Mr Gaston put a plaster on M to show us how broken bones can be treated with casts. It was very messy and M found out how inconvenient a plaster cast can be!
It was a fabulous presentation and we are very grateful to Mr Gaston for visiting us.
