Jack and the Beanstalk
March 2nd, 2012
Our new topic centres around the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We have listened to different versions of the story and started exploring one version through drama and dance. We have made a giant frieze in our class, and will be adding to it bit by bit. We have planted beans and experimented with watering them with different liquids to see if they will grow. We have also found out how water is used by plants.

I have enjoyed looking at all the wonderful work that you have been doing in P1. Your Jack and the Beanstalk frieze is so colourful and eye-catching. It will be fun adding more to it. How interesting it will be to watch your own beanstalks growing bigger! Well done, P1, and keep up the good work. I love seeing all the exciting things that you have been learning about with Mr Dagger!
I really enjoyed my chat with you today. When I saw the flowers and their strange colours I just had to stop by ask what had happened! You were very clear in explaining your science experiment and what you did. I was also very interested in the beans you are growing. Who would have thought that lemonade would make the bean grow so fast!
I wonder if the bean will tase nice when it is ready?
Your theme is very interesting and I will pop back and see how things are going.

Your Jack and the Bean Stalk display is looking fantastic now it is up Primary 1. Lucy tell’s me the beans watered with lemonade are growing the best so we’ll try it too when we plant up our vegetable patch this year.
I loved looking at your colourful flowers, what amazing colours you achieved. I have been sharing your pictures with my boys and girls in Primary 4/5 at Yester Primary school in Gifford and they were so amazed that they want to try it. We are going to do it this week as part of National Science and Engineering Week so I’ll tell Lucy when I have photographs up on our webpage and maybe Mr Dagger will let you have a look at our flowers. Happy Growing! Lucy’s Mum
