We have been learning how to work with clay. Clay comes from the Earth, and when it dries out it goes hard. We have made 2 different types of clay tile this term. Our first tiles were round. We had to roll the clay into a tomato shape and then press it with the palm of our hands to shape it into a round flat tile. We then used round objects to create patterns on one side. We made petal shapes out of card and stuck them around the edge of our tiles to make flowers/masks. We then painted our tiles a primary colour.

Our second lesson was creating square and rectangle tiles. First we went outside and looked at the fields around the school. We were looking closely at the lines and textures in the fields. When we got back to class we made round tiles like before, only this time, using clay tools we chopped the round sides off to create square and rectangle tiles. Using forks, bits of card and clay tools we added texture and lines to our tiles. One they were dry we mixed blue and yellow paint together to create green and painted them.
