Super Shape Work

We have been investigating 2D and 3D shapes. We have made pictures using circles and rectangles. We have also been making 3D towers using blocks and giant construction materials. Last week we went out and about looking for shapes in the environment. We ticked any that we found. We used the pictures we took to make shape posters. We worked together in small groups to make the posters.

More Mondrian
We looked at some more of Mondrian’s work and used Kidpix to create some of our own colour block artwork.

Broadway Boogie Woogie Collages
Today we looked at a piece of art called Broadway Boogie Woogie by an artist called Pieter Mondrian. He is famous for creating artwork using the primary colours. To make our collages the class had to cut rectangles of different sizes. They folded a piece of paper in half and then cut along the fold. They then put one half to the side and repeated the process with the other half. The children then mixed all their rectangles together and started to create their own collages, inspired by the picture Broadway Boogie Woogie. When we were finished we found out about Mondrian on the interactive whiteboard.

Musical Inventions
After Gordon’s second visit to our class to work on ‘It’s a George thing’ with us, P1 were challenged to invent their own musical instruments. The children came up with some great ideas!

We have been investigating toys in Primary One and last week Onion brought in a toy he had never seen before. He challenged the children to find out as much about this toy as they could in a very short time! The children told Onion that the toy was a Beebot; that it was made of plastic; that it used batteries to make it go; and that you needed to push buttons to make it move. After having a play with the Beebots, the class looked at a Beebot treasure map. It was very nice, but Onion only had one and there were seven groups in the class.
So each group made their own map for a Beebot to go on. Today we finished our maps and then each team member had to program their Beebot to go on a journey from one point on their map to another.
