New faces!

We have said a final farewell to Mrs Henderson who has retired after eighteen years at Gullane Nursery. She now has lots of time to do things and is keeping very busy. She enjoyed her final “surprise assembly” and loved all her gifts.

We have lots of new faces at Nursery.

Miss Fiona Smith is our new full time teacher. She had been doing some work in the Nusery already and knew all our PM group of children. She is now getting to know all the morning group too.

Miss Rachel McClachlan is our HND student and she will be with us Wednesdays,Thursdays and Fridays till the summer holidays.

Miss Lucy Coventry is our B.Ed student. She will be be with us full time for one month.

Both our students have settled in well and are enjoying their time with us, as we are enjoying having them

We celebrated the Royal Wedding with a “street party” complete with our own hand decorated crowns. The photos are up in the entrance hall for you all to enjoy.

Pirates!

Our theme this week is pirates! We have had lots of fun making a big wall display,treasure maps, parrots, baking pirate snacks like coconut bounty buns, making pirate flags and fantastic pirate hats which the ante pre schoolers can wear on Pirate Day- Friday 25th February when they will be presented with their Pirate Gift bag from Bookstart. Come dressed as a pirate or pirate princess!

Half term break

Just a reminder that there is no nursery all of next week- February 14-18th as it is half term.

We will all be back on Monday 21st. Have a good break everyone.

Chinese New Year

We have nearly finished our Chinese New Year topic and we have had a lot of fun. We have done some chinese dancing; made lucky goldfish and banners; made dragon masks and a huge dragon that lots of the children worked on; we have tried chinese writing; made panda masks and painted a whole gallery of pandas; eaten in the chinese restaurant; tried noodles eaten with chopsticks and had made rabbit biscuits and scones to celebrate the chinease year of the rabbit.

Scottish Week Ceilidh

On Monday as a part of Scottish week we are planning a mini ceilidh for the morning group. If you have anything tartan or checked, please wear it!

Mrs Henderson is leaving

You will have seen in the newsletter this week that Mrs Henderson has made the decision to retire this year after 38 years of teaching. Just to let you know that this will take place at the end of the Easter term, so still plenty of time yet. Mrs Tremmel will keep everybody informed with future developments.

Mrs Carter is not well at the moment and we are delighted to welcome Miss Finlay to the nursery during her absence. She was a student of Mrs Henderson fourteen years ago! Its a small world!

A Christmas thank you!

Mrs Henderson, Mrs Carter, Mrs Gillies and Mrs Travers would like to say a very big thank you for all the lovely gifts, cards and good wishes that we received at Christmas time. It was very kind of you and much appreciated. It is lovely to see the children back and they have settled in well. This term we are looking at birds in winter and are having a “Scottish Week” .

Last week of term

Its hard to believe but it really is the last week of term before the Christmas holidays and looking out the window this morning it looks like a true winter wonderland again ! This is a busy week in Nursery starting with all pre-schoolers attending the performance of Peter Pan in the hall, followed by a lttle treat!
Tuesday sees the pre-schoolers entertaining their families at the Christmas Sing-a-long in the hall. Refreshments are served at 10.30- normal start time for children.
The ante-pre schoolers will have their turn on Wednesday at 2.30pm in the Nursery. The PTA hamper will be drawn at each event.
Both groups of children are going to make some goodies for the party which will be held on Thursday morning at 9.30. We are all looking forward to that.

We hope that everyone has a very Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all back in January 2011!

winter has arrived!

Welcome back again to Mrs Henderson, who is feeling much better. Thank you to all who have been asking after her. Winter has certainly arrived now, bringing with it lots of snow and ice to have fun with. The children have returned to nursery after their unexpected “break” during the worst of the weather and seem really pleased to be back! Our focus for the rest of this term will ,of course, be snowy weather here in the nursery ,with a winter wonderland in the sand tray, lots of lovely snowy paintings and exciting Christmas activities.
