We are looking forward to a visit from an Eco Schools assessor soon to assess us for The Green Flag Award…date to be confirmed…watch this space!!!

We have a number of Eco related enterprizes we are working on this year. Each of these projects are linked to the curriculum and the Eco Schools Scotland Award Scheme. Below are comments posted from the pupils in the Eco Committee updating you on our progress toward each action.

RAG BAG Collection and cash for Gullane!

There will be a rag bag collection Thursday 2nd April 2009.

Please bring your rags and unwanted textiles in for collection before 2/4/09

Bin liners are coming out this week to each family

Our last collection in November raised £80 which the Eco Committee have spent on paper pot makers, Eco hats and seeds for their Eco Enterprizes. We will receive £300 for a tonne of rags – Which would be fantastic!

At 8.30pm on 28 March 2009, WWF wants a billion people to turn off their lights for one hour – WWF’s Earth Hour – sending a powerful message from all around the globe that we want action on climate change.

We want as many people as possible to be involved in this historic global event. Here are just some of the ways you can join in.

Every single person who signs up to WWF’s Earth Hour sends the message that they want action to tackle climate change!

Gullane Going Green May 2009!

We are having a Day of Action as we work towards our Green Flag Award. May 13th 2009 will be Green Day at Gullane Primary, children and staff will be asked to dress in Green. We will be out and about cleaning up the mean streets of Gullane as part of Scotland’s Spring Clean. We are lucky enough to have a visit from our local beach ranger to talk to us about wildlife and plants at Gullane Beach, then P6 & 7 will be involved in a litter pick up down at Gullane Beach. There will also be a big focus on energy reduction by the whole school.

Today/ monday 19th jan 09 In eco we have been looking at our targets that we have to meet for our green flag. We looked at a sheet of questions that were given to us a cople of weeks back. The feed back really helped us think about all the things our school has to improve on for the green flag to be awarded to us.

Gullane primary school eco commitee have been working towards their eco school green flag.
We currently have a wind turbine, solar panels and are working on getting the nusery garden with our vegetables in it. Recently our veggie patch was ruined by vandals. The mums that help us are going to keep an eye on the veggie pach and get it up and running again.

We have a new Eco-Committee for 2008/9!

School staff – Mrs Tremmel, Miss Ford, Mr Dagger, Mrs Mitchell, Mr Gordon.
Parents – Mrs Chalmers, Mrs Bruce
Pupils – P2/3 – Elliot and Mhairi
P3/4 – Isobel and Daniel
P4/5 – Rhona and Lewis
P5 – Anna and Niamh
P6 – Nicole and Ben
P7 – Ryan and Amy

So far this year we have met twice. We have conducted an environmental review undertaken by Nicole and Ben from primary 6. We are now sharing this and looking for feed back from all pupils. We have applied to grounds for awareness for £1,000 funding towards improving the school grounds.
