Recruitment of a new Head Teacher for Elphinstone Primary

Since the announcement by Jo Beveridge that she is to retire at the end of the summer term, the Parent Council has had a number of meetings with the Education department at East Lothian Council(ELC)  to discuss her replacement. Back in February the ELC were considering a number of options, including having a Shared Head Teacher with another school or appointing a temporary Head Teacher for our school for the next 12 months, which further discussions on the future of the school and the cluster took place. These options were discussed fully at the Parent Council Meeting held in February.

Following a meeting of the Parent Council with Richard Jennings (then Head of Education) in mid March we understood that a temporary 12 month Head Teacher post would be advertised, however ELC changed their decision at the last minute and in the week before the Easter Holidays the Permanent Post of Head Teacher for Elphinstone was advertised. The process for recruitment of a Head Teacher follows the ELC standard format for recruitment for such posts. The Parent Council is asked to be involved from the start, and have a chance to consider all the applicants and two members of the parent council can attend the short leet interviews, along with two elected members of the Council and the Council Leader for Education. The Parent Council members who attend the interviews must have attended Recruitement and Selection Training run by ELC.

The full timetable for recruitment arranged by ELC is here for your information Timetable for Appointment

Please get in touch with any of the Parent Council members if you would like to know more.
