The new BELs

Five ELC staff successfully completed the final element of their Basic Expedition Leadership (BEL) training and assessment at the weekend; the culmination of 10 training sessions delivered by the Outdoor Learning Service. Over a two night/35km expedition in the Northumberland National Park each of the group successfully demonstrated the skills required to safely and effectively manage a group in the outdoors.

Now, once they have completed the neccessary leadership days, they can independently organise and lead groups of adults and children on day walks and overnight expeditions such as Duke of Edinburgh.

If you are interested in gaining this nationally recognised qualification you can find details of the 2012/13 course under Staff Development.

Big congratulations to Caroline, Alan Paul, Jane and Nick for not only becoming East Lothian’s newest BELs but also for maintaining such high spirits during some ‘unseasonably cool’ overnight temperatures.
