25/9/2011 BAE Systems expected to cut more jobs  It is expected that BAE Systems will cut 3,000 jobs across the UK.  The defence firm has 40,000 staff in the UK.  Sunday Times

25/9/2011 BBC Scotland to cut 150 jobs BBC Scotland looks set to cut 150 jobs.  BBC Scotland is also considering making changes to its television and radio programme schedule as it faces a £16 million reduction in its budget.  Scotland on Sunday

24/9/2011 Kwik Fit to move to Hertfordshire Kwik Fit wll close its head offices in Broxburn and Edinburgh and move to Letchworth in Hertfordshire.  There are now growing concerns that the 113 administrative jobs in both offices could now be lost.  The Scotsman

23/9/2011 Phone battery firm to create jobs in Edinburgh Mobile phone battery firm Nujira will open a new design hub in Edinburgh creating 20 jobs over the next 24 months. The Scotsman

23/9/2011 McDonald’s to create 25 jobs McDonald’s will refurbish their restaurant at Corstorphine, Newbridge, Straiton Mains, Telford Road and South Queensferry near Edinburgh.  Around 25 additional jobs will also be created across the five sites.  Edinburgh Evening News

22/9/2011 Asda opens in Straiton, Loanhead, Midlothian Asda has opened a new supermarket in Straiton creating 370 jobs for the area.  The Scotsman

21/09/2011 Itison.com daily deals website to create jobs Daily deals website itison.com will create 25 jobs in the next year.  The online firm has offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee and has achieved a revenue of £3.5 million this year.  The firm currently has 30 employees.  The Herald

19/09/2011 Concerns over college merger plans There has been a total of 1,100 job cuts throughout colleges in Scotland.  There are now growing concerns that more jobs could be lost due to plans to merge colleges.  The Herald

19/09/2011 Royal Mail to recruit 2,000 temporary workers Royal Mail will recruit 2,000 temporary workers in Scotland to help cope with the volume of mail being sent over Xmas.  The Herald

14/09/2011 Design firm in liquidation Design firm Navyblue has gone into liquidation with the loss of 20 jobs.  The firm has offices in Edinburgh, London and Oman.  The Scotsman

14/09/2011 NHS Lothian to cut more nursing posts NHS Lothian will cut more than 398 nursing posts by the end of 2012.  The Health Board has said most of the cuts come from natural wastage and redeployment of staff.  Edinburgh Evening News

12/09/2011 New Nursery for East Lothian A new nursery will be built in the Fenton Barns area in East Lothian.  Around 25 jobs will be created for the area.  Edinburgh Evening News

09/09/2011 Insurance firm shed another 116 jobs Insurance firm Aegon UK will shed another 116 jobs in its Life and Pension business as it continues a restructuring programme. Most of the job losses are likely to be at the firm’s Edinburgh headquarters. The Herald

05/09/2011 New jobs at Edinburgh Life Sciences Firm  Edinburgh-based Life Sciences Company Aridhia is partnering with United States firm Glencoe Software to take forward an expansion plan. Up to ten new jobs will be created at Aridhia’s Edinburgh city centre base. Edinburgh Evening News

03/09/2011 Sainsbury’s recruiting seasonal workers  Sainsbury’s has announced that it will recruit 15,000 seasonal workers over the Christmas and New Year period. Last year over 2,000 seasonal workers gained permanent employment with the store. Interested applicants can apply for Sainsbury’s seasonal roles from September onwards for employment starting in late November. The Scotsman
