27/10/2011 Nightclub owners in administration Nightclub owners Luminar have gone into administration putting 3,000 jobs across the UK at risk of redundancy.  The firm owns nightclubs in Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen.

17/10/2011 Growing concern over RBS investment banking jobs Growing concern that up to 5,000 jobs world wide could be lost at the Royal Bank of Scotland’s investing banking business.  There has not yet been any confirmation of the number of jobs that will be lost.  The Scotsman

17/10/2011 Edinburgh Zoo Recruiting Staff Edinburgh Zoo will recruit around 15 staff to take care of ginat pandas which are being relocated from China by the end of the year.  (Checked on Zoo website on 26/10/11 there are currently no vacancies at Edinburgh Zoo  The Herald

14/10/2011 BP to create 3,000 oil and gas jobs  BP will create approximately 3,000 oil and gas jobs in the UK after being granted permission for a new North Sea drilling project in the Clair field near the Shetland Islands. Daily Express

12/10/2011 Sainsbury’s to create 50,000 jobs  Sainsbury’s will create 50,000 new jobs across the UK by 2020. The supermarket chain currently has 1,000 stores in the UK. Metro

 10/10/2011 Animal research facility plans for Midlothian There are plans to create a ‘European centre for animal research’ in Midlothian. As many as 1,200 jobs could be created if the plans are approved. The Herald

08/10/2011 Avaloq opens Edinburgh office  Swiss banking software firm Avaloq has opened a new office in Edinburgh. The firm will create 500 jobs by 2016. There will also be many opportunities for graduates. The Herald

7/10/2011 Gas Power Station to be build in East Lothian A 1,000 megawatt combined gas turbine power plant will be build instead of the coal-fired plant at Cockenzie in East Lothian.  Around 1,000 jobs will be created during the demolition and construction phase of the plant.  Up to 50 full-time jobs will be created thereafter.  East Lothian News Series.
