 29/06/2011 Thorntons to close stores across the UK Thorntons will close around 180 stores across the UK. The chocolatier will close the storesover a period of 3 years. It is estimated there could be between 750 and 1,125 job losses across the UK. Press and Journal

25/06/2011 Newspaper group Forth Independent Newspapers has gone into liquidation resulting in 25 employees being made redundant. Newspaper group in administration. The Herald

25/06/2011 Furniture retailer Habitat has gone into administration. Debts had mounted to £88 million.The Glasgow and Edinburgh stores continue to trade as administrators try to find a buyer for the chain. 24/6/2011 Restaurant plans for Asda site progressing An agreement is in place for a pub and restaurant chain to open a licensed eaterie near Asda at Dunbar.  Pub chain Marston’s looks set to open a branch on Spott Road as part of the ‘East Lothian Gateway’ development near the A1.  The development would also include a tourist information centre.  East Lothian Courier

24/6/2011 As one store closes … A supermarket is set to be built on the site of the former IQ Textiles factory at Prestonpans’ Mid Road Industrial Estate creating more than 60 jobs – an ideal location for a convenience store.  East Lothian Courier

23/06/2011 Staff at Telford College to strike over job cuts  Numerous staff at Telford College in Edinburgh will go on strike for more than 50 days. Staff are taking action against plans to cut 50 jobs at the college. The Scotsman

13/06/2011 Lloyds Banking Group to cut 15,000 jobs worldwide  Around 15,000 worldwide jobs are set to be cut at Lloyds Banking Group in order to save £1 billion. Hundreds of jobs are expected to be cut at their headquarters in London. It is not yet confirmed how many jobs will be affected in Scotland. The Scotsman

11/06/2011 Redundancies at Transport Initiatives Edinburgh  Around 40 staff from Transport Initiatives Edinburgh (TIE) will be made redundant. TIE has been working on the tram project in Edinburgh. A voluntary redundancy scheme will now be opened up to staff. Daily Mail

 10/06/2011 Supermarket chain in administration  Supermarket chain Haldanes has gone into administration resulting in around 600 staff being made redundant across the UK.  The chain has 26 supermarkets in the UK includin13 in Scotland. The Herald

 09/06/2011 Care provider Southern Cross to cut 3,000 UK jobs  Around 3,000 Southern Cross care workers will lose their jobs in the UK. The care provider operates 98 care homes and employs approximately 5,000 staff in Scotland. It is not yet known how many jobs will be lost in Scotland. The Herald

 09/06/2011 CCTV systems firm to recruit 15 extra staff CCTV systems firm IndigoVision will recruit 15 additional employees in its Edinburgh headquarters. The company is expanding its office space by 6,000 sq ft. The firm employs 100 workers at its headquarters. The Scotsman

 07/06/2011 Timber firm goes into receivership  Timber firm Donaldson & McConnell has gone into receivership resulting in 102 job losses including 47 in Scotland. The Herald

 05/06/2011 Fitness firm to open 8 new gyms  Energie Scotland will open 8 new gyms in Scotland by the end of August. A number ofjobs will be created.  Sunday Herald
