21/7/2011 Standard Life to cut 58 jobs Pensions and Inventment firm Standard Life will cut 58 jobs but also create 19 jobs resulting in 39 jobs being lost in total. Most of the job cuts will be at the firm’s Edinburgh office. The Herald
21/7/2011 Poundland to coin it in with new store Discount retailer Poundland has announced plans for a new store in the Musselburgh area. The firm was unable to confirm the number of jobs, location and opening dates, all of which it says will be announced in the next few weeks, but said it would open with its customary family day and a celebrity apperance. 17/07/2011 Banking software firm to create jobs in Edinburgh Banking software firm Avaloq will open offices in Edinburgh city centre. The firm will create 20 jobs by the end of 2011. Avaloq hopes to create 500 jobs in the city by 2016. Sunday Mail
16/07/2011 Delicatessen chain Peckham’s in administration Delicatessen chain Peckham’s is now up for sale. Three stores in Edinburgh, Lenzie in East Dunbartonshire and Newton Mearns in East Renfrewshire have been sold resulting in 31 employees being made redundant. Administrators Zolfo Cooper are now looking for a buyer for the other 11 stores putting 140 staff at risk of redundancy. Edinburgh Evening News

05/07/2011 Travelodge to open hotel in Edinburgh city centre Travelodge will open a new hotel above the Topshop store on Princes Street in Edinburgh city centre. The hotel will create 40 jobs for the city. Daily Record
02/07/2011 ChildLine to close Edinburgh office Children’s charity ChildLine will close its office in Edinburgh. There will be 12 jobs lost at charity Children 1st which operates the helpline in Scotland. Around 100opportunities for volunteers will also be axed. The Herald
