S2 Course

In S2, learners continue to work in set classes. As with S1, these classes follow the same breadth of topics, but to varying degrees of complexity. In using open ended questions in class, we enable each learner to reach as high as possible. Within class sets, differentiation of work is required, but we feel that keeping all learners on the same theme of work is beneficial to the motivation of all.

All learners have now completed and been assessed on their Block 4 work: Planning a Journey

Classes will now be working on Investigations within Maths. This will involve a good block of work on algebra so expect our learners to leave the classrooms with a love for letters as well as numbers!

Investigations in Maths

Maths in Motion – Lesson 1 Measuring  Video

As part of our S2 course we are working though Maths in Motion.

This is a project based on students designing and racing their own racing cars.

The maths involved will include Information handling, Number work, Time, Measure, Angle, Properties of 2D Shapes, Literacy, Technology and Science.

Our first lesson was measuring and defining the features, corners and lengths of straights on the Canadian Gilles Villeneuve Racing Track in Montreal.  We had to measure angles, use scales for finding the distances of straights and read information from tables.

We are now preparing for the Grand Prix at Silverstone.  We will have the chance to race against other schools as the Silverstone track is a competition circuit produced by Jaguar.

Watch this space for us desigining the fastest car on the track, deciding on the most successful fuel and tyre strategy and considering Engine tuning, aerodynamic downforces, suspension adjustments and gearbox ratios!
