Staff Library
There are a small number of resources for staff held centrally in the library. Ask Library Staff if you would like to view or borrow these items.
Most books may be borrowed for an unlimited time during the school year but they may be recalled at any time and they should be returned to the School Library as soon as they are no longer needed. Reference books and some books which are in heavy demand have restricted loan periods and may be signed out for one day classroom loans or on overnight loan. There is no limit to the number of books which may be borrowed by staff.
Investigations
Staff are encouraged to use the School Library for any course work which involves students researching information. Procedures for this are as follows:
For a whole class staff are advised to book space in advance. All or part of the School Library can be reserved, depending on the size of class and the type of work students are carrying out, e.g. part of the class can be searching the Internet or writing up presentations in the PC area whilst others are working in the classroom section taking notes from books or other print materials or assembling posters etc as their final presentations. The Librarian will be able to prepare resources for the class in advance of their visit, borrowing additional material from East Lothian Library Service when appropriate.
Small groups of up to four students can be sent to the library on an ad hoc basis. For more than four students up to half a class staff must let the Librarian know in advance to make sure that the School Library can accommodate the group. If there is more than half the class in the School Library, the teacher must accompany the students.
Project loans of books and other materials can be made up in the School Library. Again advance notice should be given to the Librarian. Materials can also be borrowed from East Lothian Library Service headquarters.
