Awards Evening

Last month saw Dunbar Grammar’s Duke of Edinburgh Awards Evening.
This celebrated the successes of students who had completed all, or part, of an award level in the last year.
We had 32 students completeing their bronze level, 29 completing their silver award and 15 students completing individual sections towards their Gold Award.
These are fantastic numbers and it was great to celebrate the achievements of all our youngsters.

The Award certificates this year were presented by Mrs Barbara Leslie (who works in the school office but also helps so many students complete their service section with her involvement in the Brownies) and Mrs Christine Bowman (who also works in the office and also helps us on our expeditions).

Special thanks must also go to the students who lead the evening, particularly Lucy Mullen for talking us through a Gold Reseidential experience, Craig Thorburn for his skillful piano playing, Morna Renwick for her talk about playing hockey as her physical recreation, Kirsty Steven for talking about her Volunteering and Jenny MacMillan, Katie Proudfoot, Eilidh McGregor, Finlay Hearn, Connal McLeod, Alistair Brown and Cara Mancey for sharing some of their expedition stories.

Gold Route Plan Deadlines

The Gold participants who are completing their expedition THIS summer should remember the deadlines we have discussed:
2 copies of your 1st Draft for ALL days of the expeditions should be brought to training on Thursday 15th December, where we will check other groups routes and return for correction that week. All should be given to Mrs Clubb BEFORE the Christmas holidays so that they can be looked and returned for amendments before you go on prelim leave.

Can ALL students taking part in their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award please make sure that they are regulalry updating their on-line record at www.edofe.org You should already have put in your targets and aims for each section, and you can obviously all now fill in the practice expedition details.
If you have difficulty with this will you please ask as soon as possible.

YOU SHOULD BE UPDATING THIS INFORMATION EACH WEEK TO ENSURE THAT THE AWARDS OFFICE CAN SEE YOUR PROGRESS

Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions

Click on the link above to see a video of some pictures taken on our Expeditions at the various levels over the past year. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award involves an expedition, volunteering, skill section and physical recreation. It has involved a lot of hard work and effort by our students over the year and we are very proud of their achievements.

Thanks to all staff at the school, parents and helpers who have supported the HUGE numbers of Dunbar Students to complete their Awards.

This year we have had 39 students completeing their Bronze Award, 12 completed their Silver Award and 11 working towards their Gold Award.
