The Biology Department is found on the first floor at Dunbar Grammar School. There are three Biology labs and one shared lab, all well equipped.

In the first year a General Science course is followed which include Biology, Chemistry and Physics topics.
In second year pupils experience all three sciences delivered by specialist teachers in their rooms. Pupils will experience three 9 week blocks of core science and three 3 week blocks of choice topics where they get to choose one of 3 options to further their study.
The core topic in Biology is “Human Biology” and choices include “DNA and Genetics” and “Vaccines and Disease”
In third year pupils also experience each of the science through core topics and again get an element of choice through the choice topice.
The S3 core topic is “Cellular Biology” and choices include “Growing Plants” and “Sport Science”.
The senior phase is in transition so currently pupils in S4 study Intermediate 1 or Standard Grade Biology. In the 2013/2014 academic year S4 pupils will study National 3, National 4 or National 5 Biology.
Fifth and sixth year pupils currently study Intermediate 2 , Higher and Advanced Higher Biology.
