Summer Reading Challenge 2013 is underway

Monday: hopefully this will be a usual day in class for all children. No plans for visitors or trips.

Today is the closing date for applications for the post of Acting Principal Teacher.

Tuesday: There is no brass tuition today as Mr Reeves will not be in school.

13.45/14.15 – Assemblies – House Winners will be announced.

Wednesday: Miss Alison Elgin, DHT from August 2013, will be in school all day.

P7 Police Talks take place throughout the morning. Nursery children coming into P1 visit their  this morning.

P1a, P1b and P1/2 have their storytelling from Macastory this morning. P3s session is in the afternoon.

P7 Leavers’ Disco takes place from 19.00 – 21.00 in the dining hall.

Thursday:    P1s and P2s have a storymaking drama workshops across the day.

Morning nursery children visit the Museum of Scotland all day.

Honest Lad and Lass visit the achool this morning at 09.50.

P1 and P2 sports take place from 13.00 – 14.45 at Olivebank. Join us if you can – fingers crossed for some sun.

P5 Sharing Assembly linked to John Muir Award takes place in the dining hall – 14.00.

Friday:         P7 Cluster Sports – all morning at Pinkie Playing Fields.

Mrs Beveridge met with Mrs Paton on Friday. Mrs Paton is an Additional Support Needs Auxiliary who works with our children in Campie Support Base. She has been off unwell for some time. Mrs Paton is hoping to be fit to return to Campie after the holidays.

We also send good wishes to Mrs Neillans who is also absent from school at the present time.

East Lothian Youth Theatre Summer Schools

Already wondering how you’re going to keep the kids entertained during the Summer holidays?

ELYT are running a series of mini drama schools at The Brunton this summer, as part of the Council’s Summer Activities programme.

Mini Summer drama school, ages 5-7

Tue 16 – Thu 18 July, 10.30am-12noon, or 1pm-2.30pm

Cost: £12 (£9.60 LPP)

Creative movement, mimes to music and structured improvisation, with a strong focus on gaining confidence through games and activities – and having fun, of course!

Youth Theatre Summer School, ages 8-12

Mon 22 – Fri 26 July 10am-4pm (6.30pm on Friday)

Cost: £75 (£60 LPP)

Work with an experienced drama professional in these fun and engaging drama workshops to create a play in a week.

Youth Drama Company Summer Intensive, ages 12-18
Mon 29 July – Fri 2 August 10am – 4pm (7pm on Friday)
Cost: £75 (£60 LPP)

A fun filled week in which you will create a mini drama company! The week culminates in a performance for families at the end of the week.

Youth Dance Company Summer Intensive, ages 12-18
Mon 29 July – Fri 2 August 10am – 4pm (7pm on Friday)

Experience a variety of different dance styles and techniques and choreograph, working towards a performance with the Drama Intensive course at the end of the week. A great chance to experience the way a professional dance company works.

Our P3 Forest Adventures at Newhailes! on PhotoPeach

Primary 3 had a fantastic morning at Newhailes learning all about butterflies and moths with National Trust Rangers, Stuart and Anna and exploring the woods together. They chilled in the forest while swinging in the hammock; climbed the rope ladder to get a bird’s eye view; used compasses to find their way around our forest dell site; identified trees and plants; foraged for natural ‘treasures’ to create transient art; built their own woodland secret dens and enjoyed a tasty snack ‘alfresco’…everyone had a brilliant time and we are all desperate to return for more forest adventures soon! We would like to extend a great big THANK YOU to the parents and carers who accompanied the children and to Stuart and Anna, the Rangers from the Newhailes Estate.

Our 2 newly qualified teachers, Mrs Whatmore, P3 and Miss Walker, P5, will join us also.

The class teacher for P4/5 will be our newly appointed Acting Principal Teacher.

If the appointment is made the teacher should be able to meet with the children also. This will be confirmed.

Primary 3 had a fantastic time with Marvellous Marvin and Yo Yo Cameron from Destination Judo today. We all looked great in some Judo Kit and took part in lots of different games. We were learning some of the skills we need for Judo and would love to do it again!

Starting off at 10.30am, the P7s, their families, including some younger family members, our soldier friend and former pupil Paul Lambert, his fiancee Gillian Spence and school staff, began to snake their way across the east footpath, with stunning views and a luxury cruise ship anchored at Hound Point, to  distract those who may have been a little worried about  the height! Along the way we were cheered on by members of the crew at East Coast FM ( including some former pupils) and by traffic passing us, which  tooted and waved support.

At the half way point, some of the group took the underpass to the west footpath, in order to see the progress of the new Forth crossing from above, while others returned the way they had come.

All in all the whole trip took about one and half hours – although some were quicker than others! A special mention must be made of Paul Lambert who managed to complete the trip using arm power only – a real challenge, given the incline and the heat on the day Well done Paul!

There was such a lovely atmosphere throughout and it was lovely to spend some time all together at the end, taking photos and hearing a mention for us all on East Coast FM. It was truly  a memorable occasion for everyone and a great way for the P7s to end their year of fundraising, for the charity that means so much to Paul and Gillian, who mean so much to everyone at Campie.
