We started our official transition events this week for the preschoolers getting ready to move on Primary One. You can read more about what we did and see some photos at http://edubuzz.org/campienursery/2013/05/10/this-weeks-highlights-7th-10th-may/. On the nursery blog I have now added a page for Transition 2013, including a copy of the key dates and events.

Just a quick reminder that it is Pirate Day in the nursery tomorrow! We would love to see your pirate costumes (or something that might fit into a pirate story!) and we have lots of fun pirate activities and a special pirate snack planned

Between the ranger and the nursery team, we have agreed that it would be safer and more enjoyable for the afternoon children to have their ‘Signs of Spring’ lesson with the ranger in the school grounds. The ranger has very kindly offered to join us in the nursery instead of all of us walking to Newhailes. Thank you all the adults who volunteered to help on this visit. Please let us know if you would like to stay and join in!

Just to let you know, at this time we are planning to go to Newhailes with the afternoon group tomorrow as planned. There has been a lot of rainfall so it will be very muddy, so please wear wellies!
However, we are keeping a close eye on the weather, as we have been advised by the NTS Ranger that if the winds are too strong it could be unsafe.
We will be making a decision in the morning, and will contact you using the Group Call system and using this website. If we do have to cancel we will stay and play in the nursery instead, and look at signs of spring together on the whiteboard.

Today was a very important day for the nursery and for Primary 6, as we started our buddy system at last!
All our preschool nursery children (morning and afternoon) have been matched up to a P6 pupil and they will meet as often as possible this term to play together, enjoy stories, get to know the school, explore the playground and more. They will remain buddies as the P6s become P7s and the nursery children start P1 after the summer holidays.
This morning and this afternoon the P6 pupils visited us for the first time down in the nursery and everyone was introduced. The P6s joined in with our gathering time and then stayed to play with their buddy, who was showing them all their favourite bits of the nursery. All the nursery staff were very impressed by how well the P6 pupils behaved and interacted with the younger children -well done P6!
(Photos to follow once I have checked who can and can’t go on the blog!)

Due to the weather forecast for tomorrow we have made the decision to POSTPONE tomorrow morning’s visit to Newhailes. The ranger advised us that in such high winds it would be too risky, and there is ‘heavy and persistent’ rain forecast on top of that. I feel that we would all be very wet and quite miserable, and the learning we have planned just couldn’t take place. The ranger has very kindly offered us an alternative date: Wednesday 24th April (same times)

The afternoon trip on Thursday is still going ahead at this time, but we will need to keep an eye on the forecast as high winds may still be a concern. We will keep up updated here and via Group Call.

This week the morning nursery class will be visiting Newhailes to learn about the signs of spring on Wednesday, and the afternoon class will go on Thursday.
It is a beautiful sunny morning right now (Monday), but at the moment the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday looks pretty wet. Hopefully the winds will keep the clouds moving on, but please remember to wear your wellies and waterproof jackets!

We have a very busy but very enjoyable week in the nursery, getting ready for the Easter holidays. One of our parents came in to share the story of Easter with the PM class, and Mrs Demarco did an egg-cellent job getting all the children to make chocolate nests. Well done to Lewis who took some great photos of these for the blog. Unfortunately I can’t get Photopeach to work or the photos to load directly using edubuzz…… Grrrrrr! The joys of technology!
The parent council kindly organised a special Easter activity with P6 pupils helping the nursery children find clues yesterday morning, and finding eggs in the nursery garden today. Everyone had a yummy chocolate egg or a nut-free alternative to go home with
Thank you!
Mr Keiller’s P4 class also visited us yesterday to perform their famous Oompa Loopma dance! They had learned it as part of their showcase work for Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. The children absolutely loved the dance and were delighted to join in too!
It was great to see the AM preschool parents at the parent consultations, and there will be more meetings for the PM preschool children at the end of April.
Thank you to everyone who has already returned the feedback forms. Although we have tried to make good use of the nursery boards, newsletters and the blog, we are aware that some parents are missing some of our news. We are going to try using the group call system: sending you a text message. Please help us to make this work by keeping us up to date with any changes of mobile phone number!
Have a great holiday everyone, and we look forward to seeing you on the 8th!
(I will update this post on our Nursery blog http://edubuzz.org/campienursery/ with photos as soon as I can get it working again!)

Just a wee reminder that children can come to nursery dressed up for Red Nose Day on Thursday and Friday morning.
We will pass on any small donations for Comic Relief that you may wish to make to the school’s total.
