Local WW2 Legend Visits P7
WW2 Hero Dr Renouf’s Visit on PhotoPeach
Yesterday Primary 7s were visited by Dr Tom Renouf: a WW2 veteran from the famous 51st Highland Division.
Dr Renouf took part in the D-Day landings on the beaches of Normandy, then took part in in battles travelling across France and Belgium before helping to secure Victory in Europe with more fighting in Germany. His regiment was responsible for detaining any ‘suspicious’ looking individuals after Germany’s surrender, and, although they didn’t know it at first, they managed to capture Heinrich Himmler -Adolf Hitler’s right hand man.
Dr Renouf told us about how difficult conditions were at home and on the front line, fighting in the infantry. He also told us about how he came into possession of Himmler’s wrist watch, which he brought in to show us. But you’ll have to read his book, ’Black Watch’, to find out
We feel very privillaged to have had the opportunity to meet such a brave and important man and ask him about his experiences. Thank you to Mr Fairnie for helping make it happen!
Nathan came out of school raving about Dr Renouf’s visit and we enjoyed hearing many of his experiences on and off for the rest of the day as Nathan remembered various things. Please pass on our thanks to him and those involved in organising the visit. Nothing beats real life experiences. Thank you.
What an amazing experience for the P7s! The children all seemed totally blown away by this experience, and what a lot they must have learned from it. Thank you so much Mr Renouf, you are awesome.
