Tomorrow’s Inventors

For the P7 Enterprise we are doing a competition in which we have to invent something which can sort an everyday problem. Some of the inventions are, a Jox Box AKA, a space saver and stops children getting bored because it has a TV, PS2 projecter, DVD and CD player. Also there is a Shoe Shocker which untangles knots in your shoe laces and polishes your shoes. A Lean Mean Hygiene Machine which solves the everyday problem of people not flushing the loo and this does it for you when you unlock the door and when you open and close the door a fragrance comes out of lavender scent. Last but not least the granny mobile which is a go-kart for the elderly.

P4’s digital media presentation!

As part of their current Haddington project, P4 decided to make a movie of the town. However, instead of actually filming in Haddington, the children went one step better, and created their own “set” of the High Street in winter. They then filmed the street, going down one side and coming back up the other.

See how many of the shops you can recognise!

Click on the link below to load the film in a new window. (requires quicktime to have been installed on your computer)

Mrs Hillson’s last day at Yester.

After more than 13 years, today was Mrs Hillson’s last at the school, as she is moving to Humbie Primary to take up the post of Principal Teacher there.

We all went to the hall after break, for a presentation, where Mrs Hillson was given, among other things, a book of “thoughts”, with each child having written something they remember Mrs Hillson for. She read out one or two, including one from Rosie in P7, which said that she recalled being moved up a reading group by Mrs Hillson in P1, and being so proud. Nowadays though, said Rosie, she regularly reads 600 page books in a day or two!

I’m sure the rest of P7 would agree with that!

Anyway, GOOD LUCK at Humbie, Mrs Hillson!

East Lothian TAG Rugby Tournament, Meadowmill- Yester win “Fair Play” trophy and medals!

tagrugby21.jpg

Yester competed in the East Lothian Primary Schools TAG rugby tournament at Meadowmill, along with 19 other schools on Wednesday 22nd November. We sent a team of 11 pupils, six from primary 7 and five from primary 6. Our team was drawn in a tough looking qualifying league with Law Primary, Musselburgh Burgh, Whitecraig Primary and Prestonpans Primary.

On a very cold morning, the team lost their first match to Law 4-0. However, they bounced back to win their next match against the Burgh 4-1. In their third match, Yester managed a good 2-2 draw against Whitecraig, before crashing 5-2 to Prestonpans in their final match. Although not good enough to qualify for the final stages, the team were delighted to win the trophy for “Fair Play”, which was a great achievement. Each team member was also awarded a gold medal for this achievement.

Trophy winners!

A delighted squad with their trophy and medals!

The following is an extract from an email received after the event from Graham Shiel, who was the organiser of the day:

“This years tournament saw 18 schools from throughout East Lothian represented, consisting of 20 teams. These teams competed for both the traditional TAG Rugby Trophy and also the Fairplay Award. The Fairplay Award was competed for throughout the group stages, where the teams were marked on Teamwork, Sportsmanship and Conduct. For each game there was a maximum total of 15 points awarded with an overall total of 60 points possible throughout the group stages. This Award went to Yester Primary School with a staggering 58/60 points - Well done to Yester. Over the 2 years of running this award I have been encouraged with the approach taken by the pupils and also the adults in promoting Fairplay and the way teams are competing.”
