Yester’s business partner- The Chippendale School of Furniture

Former student Sandy, now working full time.

On Wednesday 17th January, I spent a very interesting day at the Chippendale School of Furniture, which is situated on the road between Gifford and Haddington, close to the village.

The furniture school is run by Anselm Fraser, and students come from all over the world to study there, learning the techniques that made Thomas Chippendale a world renowned furniture designer.
My day began when I sat in on a lecture by Anselm, where he was discussing methods of gaining trust between the manufacturer (the students) and their prospective clients.

After this, I was whisked off to a nearby village to see for myself a kitchen that had been designed and installed by one of Anselm’s former students, who now works full time at the school, designing various furniture items.

I then spent the rest of my day discussing with students how they enjoy their course, what they plan to do to further their careers after graduating in June 2007, and discussing with Anselm how we might further the link between Yester school, and the school of furniture.

Looking back on the day, it was a very different and enjoyable experience for me.
