Cross Country Championships- Hallhill, Dunbar

Boys' race

The boys’ race, about to start…

Earlier today, 12 Yester pupils ran at the annual East Lothian Cross Country Championships, at Hallhill, Dunbar.

Although Yester has an excellent record of winning in the event over the past 10 years or so, this year our team battled bravely to gain third place out of four temas.

In the girls’ race, Corrie came 6th out of 24, and in the boys’ race, our top placed boy was Sean who came 7th.

Judo session….

In between our researching of the newspaper sites this morning, P7 spent half an hour in the gym, taking part in a high energy session of judo.
Tutors, Calum and Judo Joe, taught the class the basics of the sport, and everyone had great fun trying out the moves that they were learning. Some of the P7s have been attending after-school judo classes for as long as three years already, and based on today’s session, it’s quite possible that some more of the class will decide to join the classes, as they are a great way to keep fit.

Reviewing the newspapers….

Today in P7 we have been reviewing the national newspapers, a bit like what they do on BBC’s Breakfast News programme.

We looked at a variety of websites, including The Scotsman, The Herald, The Times, The Telegraph, The Independent and The Observer. These newspapers are examples of what are called the “broadsheets”, as they carry serious news, unlike the “tabloids”, which offer news that may be a bit lighter in nature.

We found that each newspaper carried different main stories. As an extra, we reviewed the stories for others who had not been to each website.

America Ferrera- The actress who plays Ugly Betty

The first site we looked at was: http://www.america-ferrera.com
It was good but the only thing we thought was helpful was the pictures.
Overall we give it 4 out of 10.

The next website was askmen.com it was excellent. We especially thought the biography and the pictures were superb. Overall we give it 9 out of 10.

Finally we looked at http://www.americaferrera.info. It was good but it had really small writing. We give it 6 out of 10.

Cheese

As part of our ICT lesson we had to look up a subject of our choice; we chose cheese. Here’s a bit about cheese.
Cheese is a delicacy in some countries such as France, Switzerland, Italy and Germany. We personally think that French cheese and Swiss are the best. There are hundreds of different cheeses in France alone such as Stilton, Boursin and Camembert.
You can do different things with cheese.
For example, Halumi you cook in a frying pan, strangely, it doesn’t melt but turns brown and salty.
